HELP: How to visualize music from any program
projectM works by reading and interpreting digital audio (pulse-code modulation a/k/a PCM). Each unique visualization interprets the volume, base, treble, and mid-range from the PCM data in real-time to create the effect desired by the author.

For projectM to accurately visualize music it needs it to "hear" your audio source.

macOS
macOS does not provide PCM data from applications to projectM by default. If you want to supply PCM data from application like Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, WinAmp, or YouTube you must install third party software.

A free solution for projectM to read PCM data is:

If you want the free solution to visualize your music and also output sound to your preferred speaker, you need to tweak your settings using a built-in tool called "Audio MIDI Setup". Further guidance on how to accomplish this can be found here (hint: to run Audio MIDI Setup use Finder):

A paid solution for projecM to read PCM data is:

If you want to visualize music from a microphone input device then you can use CTRL+I to toggle input devices.

Windows

On Windows projectM will default to "loopback audio" without any configuration. This means it will listen to ANY application creating audio output to your default speaker. If you want to switch to a different input source like your microphone, use CTRL+I to toggle your input source.

How to make it work in Ubuntu?
Ubuntu has again an issue, because I have to launch it now with:
sudo /home/yourfolder/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/projectM/projectMSDL
Use CTRL+I in the program to switch to next input source: that allows me to activate the output as source.

If it still doesn't work, try to install next stuff and relaunch the sudo version: sudo apt-get install libsdl2-dev

I love the look of this program, I still own all the Sound Spectrum Viz's but wanted something more up to date.
Sadly, it will not listen to my HDMI port which feeds my Dolby Atmos system. I've tried it in Stereo, 5.1, 7.1 & Atmos, none of them make the sines move.
Can you help at all?
Thanks so much.
Steve
