In the timeline that Jack dies, he dies a good guy that pretends to be a bad guy.
In the timeline that he becomes a god, he is a good guy.
In this game, Jack stole the power to reset time from the real bad guys. (And it's not that all the real bad guys are bad - but the ones Jack faces in this story are.)

Hint, Jack Garland is not Garland.
Moogle pulled a Batman Beyond and implanted real-world jack into the semen of garland's father. Garland does not exist in the new dissidia opera omnia simulation to make room for jack.
You answer to everyone everywhere about this game, don't you? Much respect.
Jack thinks hes the good guy, but he is a puppet and is framed as the bad guy in the world.
the real bad guys are aliens, and the aliens are playing God on the world and they manipulate the world to conjure light and dark energy.
Jack is the "bad guy" in the world, thinking hes the good guy, but is forced to be the bad guy in the world near the end of the game in order to remake forced conflict of light vs dark.
Jack and his comrades have been alive for like, thousands of years or something like that, reincarnated with his comrades, magically popping up in the world when it resets from the aliens playing God, and he goes does warrior of light stuff for the bad aliens.
the world resets when Jack is close to revolting against his alien employer, or when the world is about to implode, so the aliens reset the clock on the world.
the aliens like, are doing research and/or sapping the light and dark energy from the world when the world is in a struggle of light vs dark. as to why they do it is still a mystery.
eventually Jack catches wind of the evil deeds of the aliens, and him and his comrades make a master plan in the making for thousands of years to finally break the cycle and free the primitive world from the alien's control.
jack realizes he is an alien himself like the bad guys, but seeks revenge against his own aliens for toying with the innocent people on the world.
Jack and his friends constantly have amnesia/dementia/Alzheimers because their dark crystals sabotage them by sapping their memories away so they dont retaliate against their own aliens. people think the dialogue and banter in the game is trash, and people think the main characters are very very stupid, but theyre secretly very smart and work hard to beat the odds against the bad guys over the process of thousands of years while fighting against the odds and being the underdog.
Jack and his friends catch on for thousands years slowly making plans. one mistake the aliens make is relying on a dark elf who is immortally keeping all of his memories, so the dark elf is haunted with being alive for thousands of years and decides to try to help jack and his comrades, and the dark elf does a lot of the deep thinking and planning to free the world with jack being the muscle.
Jack near the end of the game, breaks a cycle of it all and lives for eternity finally as THE Garland we know, framed as the bad guy, but he deliberately becomes "Chaos" in order to train the warrior of light we all know from the original FF1, and the Warrior of light dies thousands of times until he is strong enough to overcome any trial the aliens have to offer after Jack dies as Garland/Chaos from the Warrior of Light.
Jack needs to groom the Warrior of Light in order to defeat the aliens once and for all.
Jack will die a hero who is framed as a villain.
the story of the game is very heavily implied to be the standard that the final fantasy games are all tied to a metaverse, or a joined multiverse. where there are dimensions, galaxies, planets, universes tied together and that its all canonical that the worlds of final fantasy games can connect with one another and none of it is filler or unofficial to the stories.
the mobile game Opera Omnia, maybe brave exvius, FF14, dissidia, (and even FF7 and FF10 supposedly was once confirmed to be in the same world), these games all have heavy implications that the final fantasy games are canonically tied together in some vague or strong way.
