Jack is amazing protag, everything about him makes perfect sense once you beat the game and to me, this ending hands down beats endings of half mainstream series titles as well, I personally consider the twist god-tier for a FF game.

Plot of this game and Jack and his development and story feels like Nomura personally got down on me.

Jack is a breath of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fresh air and is absolutely hilarious, in the face of the jrpg staple protags, and I'm absolutely here for it. He absolutely doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥, has finishers like it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ god of war, and reminds me a lot of fun protags that march to the tune of their own drums like Dante, Bayo, jak, and Kratos. And if you really can't stand him op, you're always freee to skip the cutscenes and just play for the fun gameplay and progression.
