Griffin replaced with tonberry in first mission
I've played the game on release back when it came out on egs, I am going to buy it again on steam cause i want it on steam. A friend of mine was playing it and I was watching him and saw that the griffin in the first mission near the chaos fight has been replaced with a tonberry. Also the AI companions have their own healing source which I don't remember from base. He was playing on hard and he managed to beat the chaos fight in 2 goes while i remember it taking me quite a few goes on hard to beat, did they make the fight easier?

The tonberry has been there since launch.

The Griffon Queen is present on a side mission after completing the first mission in the big open hall / room (where the alpha wolf is during the first mission).

The AI companions always had potions, but at launch and the patch after launch, we could not see how many potions they had left.

Regarding difficulty, the game has had a few adjustments that makes the first playthrough easier numerically, where the actual AI appears largely the same since launch. (e.g., basic jobs get several hundred more HP, stat formulae have changed that allow players on Hard to generally take an extra hit before they die, stat bonuses having a noticeable impact on break damage dealt, and the item level penalty being extended to 10 levels below instead of 5 levels below, and reduced impact of the break penalty for being below the item level.

Thanks for the reply, either im losing it or my memory just isn't as good as it use to be as i just simply remember fighting a griffin in that tonberry room to level up my class due to not being able to beat chaos.

I believe it was a griffon for the first demo! I know because I remember being surprised to see the tonberry when the final demo came out right before launch. I used that griffon to grind for the first boss and was hoping to do the same on release
