AI stupidity at higher difficulty
is it just me or is the AI borderline disabled at high difficulty. on easier modes, they actually fought and casted their spells. now on bahmut level, when i activate their magic or whatever (right left D pad) they just stare at the enemies and play with their assigned genitals. is there something they did to make the AI next level stupid on the higher difficulty or what.

im not expecting the AI to handle the entire game for me, but when i activate them, they should do more than just stand there and fiddle themselves...

AI always was like that, but until that point it didn't had to deal with 5-8 enemies that can OHK it.

Just remove companions and go solo or online at end game.

They’ve always been terrible, it just becomes worse in dlc because you actually need them to help. This is why I said dlcs are really meant to be played in coop unless you are rly good. But the companions in the dlc are dead useless. They always get killed etc.

do you get more power or something if you are solo?

No.

I've found party members to not perform well when it comes to damage but they can still be a distraction for enemies or bosses and they also always can be a bit of extra stat to have around through liberator 400%

If solo, the enemies will have less break and HP.
With two A.I. companions, the enemies gain an additional 20% HP and break.

In the 2nd DLC, the A.I. companions mere presence, even if dead, contribute toward quests that say "defeat enemy as Duelist" or "defeat enemy as Tyrant". And completing those quests will give you more Duelist or Tyrant affinity when you decide to take advantage of the quest giver's bonuses.

And then NPC power, Liberator 600% roughly yields 12% of the NPC's stats as long as they're alive (or your stats to them). So when you have Sophia running around the Rift with 1000 Strength, you'll get an extra 120 Strength out of that for yourself. And if she ever decides to do a Zantetsuken with that amount of Strength, she'll wreck normal enemies and take a chunk of the boss's HP. But if that boss is zooming around or doing too many AoEs, she'll probably spend most of her resonance chasing and contemplating whether or not if she should do anything.

"she'll probably spend most of her resonance chasing and contemplating whether or not if she should do anything."

this unfortunately has been my experience with them on the higher difficulties. sometimes they go nuts and wipe out 3 enemies at once with a special attack and they all soulburst and explode. other times they take a nap.

AI only cast spells if you use resonance. So spam it often. Sage AI is prety good.

That's main reason why you'd want to take companions to rift.

yes this is after using the activation or whatever its called. they still just stand there half the time, buffering. i also notice the sage AI doesnt cast buffs very often. i just run the sage myself to cast haste and such. it will heal and rez though

If you want the AI to be helpful at higher difficulties you also need to remember to actually build them out. iLevels alone aren't enough at high difficulty which is probably why a lot of people see them go down like nothing. If you properly build out say Neon as a Paladin with all the good affinity passives and such then she'll be able to stay alive even against bosses for and Holy Fang can still do some damage. Like wise you can aim to give Sophia better MP regen so that she can cast more often during Resonance.

There's also remembering to Limit Break their jobs and getting them their job levels each DLC too.

Also Lightbringer buff skills go toward Resonance on AI partners so throw in some of those onto their gear to help them stay active longer.

I find Paladin 250 (Health regen in resonance) and Berserker 400 (MP regen in resonance) go a long way. You could also throw Knight 400 on there and each time you give them the go-ahead they'll just fully heal themselves and be able to pull out some skills even if they didn't have any MP beforehand. I suppose white mage 400 for the re-raise could be worth while too. I typically keep Neon as a Paladin and Ash as a Liberator because they can both recover their own HP even without affinity - Sophia and Jed just seem to take dirt naps constantly every time I try to use them.

That said I only just started Gilgamesh so I don't know how long this will hold true for.

When Sophia the Sage finally gets going, throwing party buffs and even freaking ultima, it's amazing lol.
