Just remove companions and go solo or online at end game.
I've found party members to not perform well when it comes to damage but they can still be a distraction for enemies or bosses and they also always can be a bit of extra stat to have around through liberator 400%
If solo, the enemies will have less break and HP.
With two A.I. companions, the enemies gain an additional 20% HP and break.
In the 2nd DLC, the A.I. companions mere presence, even if dead, contribute toward quests that say "defeat enemy as Duelist" or "defeat enemy as Tyrant". And completing those quests will give you more Duelist or Tyrant affinity when you decide to take advantage of the quest giver's bonuses.
And then NPC power, Liberator 600% roughly yields 12% of the NPC's stats as long as they're alive (or your stats to them). So when you have Sophia running around the Rift with 1000 Strength, you'll get an extra 120 Strength out of that for yourself. And if she ever decides to do a Zantetsuken with that amount of Strength, she'll wreck normal enemies and take a chunk of the boss's HP. But if that boss is zooming around or doing too many AoEs, she'll probably spend most of her resonance chasing and contemplating whether or not if she should do anything.
this unfortunately has been my experience with them on the higher difficulties. sometimes they go nuts and wipe out 3 enemies at once with a special attack and they all soulburst and explode. other times they take a nap.
There's also remembering to Limit Break their jobs and getting them their job levels each DLC too.
Also Lightbringer buff skills go toward Resonance on AI partners so throw in some of those onto their gear to help them stay active longer.
That said I only just started Gilgamesh so I don't know how long this will hold true for.
