Then keep your distance from Tonberry, you can soul absorb his distance attack (one that paralyses, and violet one which cause heavy damage).
When he aggros your teammates, come from the back and throw heavy combos, always mind his vision and whether he looks at you (means he aggroed you). Also be aware of his pattern, he always has this one thing where:
1. When he shoots the paralyse spell, he will always teleport to you and stab you.
2. When you're close he will try to stab you to. Wait for it, and when he misses, swoop in with damage.
I especially use the Axe for heavy stance breaking combos that even tip him over, works well.
A distance weapon like a lance would work well too.
Also always avoid facing him square on.
honestly can't get the hang of void knight. It feels a bit too gimmicky, and I liked base paladin lol.
So your ability basically only works against magic spells and not physical abilities?
It'll guard against regular abilities, but only powers up from magic abilities.
And then turning that back into a magic slash projectile for damage / break damage or eating the magic to refill the MP.
