origins is a souls-like in the vein of Nioh, it has a story but its middling, in turn, its very loot heavy with randomized pieces, it can lead to farming.
i like both for different reasons, im a fan of all types of rpgs and all souls-likes really, so it really depends what you are looking for.
this one is co-op though, which can make a big difference if you're one of those people who likes co-op.
SOP is action focused souls like game with higher difficulty. FF7R is more forgiving story based more traditional FF game.
Personally I prefer SOP for the following reasons
- FF7 remake is downgrade compared to the original. They cut the game in 3 parts, and give you part 1 with tons of filler and boring side quests and stupid minigames. I just don't have the patience for this anymore and literally prefer to play the golden age FF (pixel remasters or ff7-12) than FF7 remake.
- FF7 Story was never my favorite. I always felt the entire sephiroth and Shinra plot was silly. I prefer the more condensed plot of FF1 in medieval fantasy universe. And SOP is exactly in that universe.
- SOP respects your time. You can do a couple levels. Quit. Come back. Etc. It's condensed nioh Action game.
- story of SOP is really cool but you have to play the dlcs to get the full picture.
- I like the more mature feel of SOP compared to the Shonen anime style of FF7.
But original FF7 on ps1 was a masterpiece... Remake just ain't it besides the shiny visuals.
