How to break ice???

I'm in the 1st mission where junior pulled 1 guard into the water and I'm trying to break the ice and pull in the 2nd guard.

I've approached very closely to the ice and a breakable icon shows on the screen, I then tapped / repeatedly pressed "Z", but Sam only seems to knock on the ice instead of breaking it.

Sometimes I also see a hand / grab icon, but have no idea what to do?

Can someone tell me how to break the ice and pull that guard into the water?

Default control for that is "space bar". Try with that.

Yes, I finally figured that out. I like how they change control scheme for every single installment.

It's not that different from Chaos Theory but some things have changed. Enjoy the game!
