Gears on the main menu

I have noticed that they have been slowly turning yellow, Any ideas what this is about?

There is a secret you get to see if they all turn yellow

I don't think anyone has really figured out how exactly to get all the gears but if you play the game long enough and unlock all that you can you'll definitely light up all the gears.

Someone on a /v/ thread was able to do it and it unlocks a secret movie.

As for how to get all the gears, we still don't know and a few people in the thread are trying figure that out.

Does it have something to do with getting all achievements? On NG+ rn and I'm already getting the impression that the "Reach level 50 for everyone" won't entirely be doable on this run even if I frequently make XP boost meals. Either that or I assume it's just capping out everything (all Tanaris upgrades, all 36 locations, etc.)

I play on Xbox. Got all of the achievements on July 31st but I didn't get all of the gears until August 3rd. I still have no idea what I did to unlock the last gear. I was in the middle of my 5th playthrough with 55 hours on the clock when the game crashed and when I reloaded the final gear randomly appeared and the secret movie was unlocked.

Welp, completed game on good ending and i have only 3 gears shining, thats weird... Dunno what exactly they need.

already got all the archivment, max social links, even got all secret garden and still gotten 11/12 gear, how do they activate?

Got the top three when I got the best ending. I also have two near the bottom, but I'm not sure what they are from. Maybe the one of them is from completing the Sucre comic.

9th from the top is the only one im missing so far

I've lost my save on a computer crash. That sucked but I'm taking the opportunity to replay it and record exactly when I get each gear. I'm saving and going back to the menu constantly, whenever I do something significant.

I got the small gear #2 when I upgraded Workshop to Lv. 5 and Machine Gun to Lv.15. I don't know which of these did it but it's one of those.

I got the large gear #11 after collecting the full Sucre comic. It only showed up when I started the Chapter 11 battlefield route, so I think the game does not count temporary saves for the gears.

I was also missing that one ! And I do believe that, in ordre to unlock the 9 th gear, you have to use the Soul Canon 10 times. The good ending counts for one, so if you're not willing to kill any kids (which made me cry and litteraly instantly delete my save file..), you can just play through the game 10 times.

As for the others.. i'm not so sure. The secret garden doesn't have anything to do with it, at least.
