Dreadnought class ship without the required tech?
In my current game, my technology level is far ahead of all my opponents. I have just encountered a dreadnought class ship belonging to an opponent who doesn't even have cruiser tech yet..just frigates. Where in the galaxy did he get this? Also, I have discovered he has two of these...and they are armed with tech I haven't even seen yet ( nightmare missiles, etc.). My entire fleet couldn't touch either of these currently. Just wondering how he has these...anomalies, events, something? Thanks...

They are either Command Ships or most likely the Green Witch of the Xeloxi has converted the Sentinel ships of a Red Anomaly.
The third tier command ships are Dreads IIRC and although sentinels are not Pirates they are Dreads and a flaw in the game allows the Green Witch to recruit them with her ally to Pirates ability.

Yeah, my current game, the Xeloxi have like 12 dreadnoughts, and they are slaughtering everyone. They definitely didn't have it researched.

IIRC the red anomalies are guarded by at least one Dreadnought each.
The Xeloxi are allied with Pirates which the ships in the red anomalies are considered to be so when they reach one they get those Guardian ships (which IMHO is a mistake in the game design)

The next game design mistake is, that the Xeloxi never move those red anomaly fleets they aquired which makes investigating the red anomaly impossible cause the game allways thinks your Flagship wants to attack the Xeloxi Fleet. Only chance is to go to war with them but often you don't want to do that!

Save any Wormhole Generator artifact charges you get from surveying anomalies. Then, when you encounter another Xeloxi fleet on an anomaly hex, send them on a nice little trip.

No war declaration required.
