Constant Crashes! A nightmare!
Great game and all but good lord...I can't have a game without constant crashes followed by constant reloads, literally every few turn the game will crashes for no apparent reason. It's unplayable most times, can somebody please suggest a solution?

Hello!

This is not the usual experience, so gotta ask a few questions.
When you crash, do you get a crash report pop up? If you do, have you been sending those?

Also, it would be incredibly helpful in fixing your crashes, if you could share a save file, where this happens to you. You could either use a tool like dropbox, or share the save file directly at our discord.

Thank you!

...
still no answer to the dev by the o.p., it is a pity as I would have love to know more about this issue.
I tend to embark for very long games, and crashing and not be able to finish a marathon would be a bit painful...
But no crash or issue so far on my system (full AMD).

I've played GC4 since the its launch on Epic (I now play on steam) I think in all that time I've had maybe 2 crashes and that was when it was EA on Epic I don't believe I've experienced any crashed on Steam. Really sounds like an issue on the OP's system and not GC4.

The Debug.err from

\My Games\GalCiv4

Would be most helpful.

Like the OP, I've been having a bunch of crash to desktop without an error message. Per the post about the debug.err file, below is a sample of the lines
Debug Message: Personal folder located at C:\Users\paul\OneDrive\Documents
Debug Message: Command Line:
Debug Message: Failed to create program data dir directory C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Galactic Civilizations IV - Supernova

So, the program is now trying to make directories in the C drive? I have (and had since initial install) the game on my D drive.

Thoughts?

It would seem something is preventing the game from writing files to normally accessible locations, ProgramData (yes, that is always on C: ) in this instance.

As a test, if you create a new local Windows Admin (<-important) account, log in under it (making no other changes to it after its creation), and try to run the game, does it work then or do you have the same issue?

well, adding another account and using it seems to have fixed. Just played for 30 mins without any problem. No memory complaints while doing auto saves either. I'll post again if the problem comes back. Thanks.

Very pleased to hear it. That it works under the new Win Admin account indicates that it was indeed a read \ write \ permissions issue - one that may now be resolved under your normal Windows account as well. Worth a test if you have yet to.

I have almost the same issue. This happens when I'm trying to attack ships/starbases. Previously I had a crash after ~6 hours of play. Today I experienced that after ~30 minutes.
Game freeezes for some secs, after that just closes. No error-reporting window is showed.
At "Debug err" I found next lines by keyword failed:
[EOS SDK] Login Failed - Error Code: EOS_InvalidAuth
Debug Message: CMapViewWindow failed to set DXSAS UI variable: -134239696 in effect: -134243808 because the DXSAS engine was not initialized

Also I noticed that my debug.err has many lines with broken/wrong encoding (playing non English, German, or French translation). Dunno if that may be important.

Oh, and one more thing which may be important. The save file I used has non-English name.

Uploading the debug.err to a cloud service of your choice (GoogleDrive, PasteBin, OneDrive, etc) and posting a shared link here is always very helpful.

Just an update; I know this is an old post. The fix stopped working. The debug.err was still complaining about failing to open/make directorise on the c:. My computer has two hard drives; a fast, small boot drive and a large data drive. Steam was installed on the C drive and all my games on the D drive. I uninstalled Steam and reinstalled it on the D drive and reinstalled Gal Civ IV and now I have no problems (2.51). So, it seems like Gal Civ IV (warlord) wants to be on the same drive as Steam. Or so it seems to me.
Just bought the game, looks great from seeing the beginning and concepts, but very frustratingly, it keeps crashing on me. This time, I simply went to double click on the shipyard and it froze, I could hear the AI Advisor telling me how it worked, but could not see it. Below is the error code I got:

CD3D11Renderer::GetImageInfoFromFile FAILED: Memory allocation failed. Could not load info from file "D:\STEAM\STEAMAPPS\COMMON\GALACTIC CIVILIZATIONS IV\GFX\LUT\BaseLUT.dds"

Verify your files. Sometimes the game does not load correctly at first.
@ghost88, thanks for the reply, how do I verify ?
