Does the Ai still cheat massively ?
I know GalCiv3 was difficult partly because the Ai would cheat (at least thats what i remember was my conclusion).
Like how is the ai now? Do i need a star craft build order and apm or can i just play it in a relaxed way?

AFAIK the AI does not receive any bonuses unless you set difficulty to Bright or above. They do however sent out a lot of probes early in the game to find all good planets to make nice CORE worlds. So I started to do the same. For me, no need for APM ( I used to be a pretty good Zerg player), I play in relaxed mode. Lots of decision making going on in GC4, so I try not to rush things.

It is a turn based game, so you have all time of the world, you need to make a decision. APM is definetly not a factor.
As Basher pointed out, AI will begin getting buffs at higher difficulties, but if you want a relaxed game, no need to go there anyways :D

OK ill try the game. I couldn't get into Star craft even though i played it because there's only a couple of "right ways" and many wrong ways to play it. Like even if its turn based i hate having told hey by turn 100 u should have capital ships otherwise u might aswell quit.
What if u want to build only small ships or what if i want to play tall? now.. i know galciv has never been about playing with one planet nor would it be realistic but i wouldn't want to have an optimized construction queue in order to get 100 points more than the ai just not to loose a points victory.
Like in stellaris even naked corvettes have an use. Though there's no advantage to not researching. That works is pretty realistic imho.

one thing about Gal civ games is the aI is pretty fair
I would not say it cheats but has better info and can micro manage more effectually than a human on the other hand humans are better at long term planing and adaptability

The AI does always seem to be a few steps ahead. I'd like to see SOME variance however. Some nations be very smart..some be very dumb.

One thing that I've found is that the more you know and the better you play, the less the AI feels like it's cheating.

AI just can optimize stuff much faster than the other player near instantly. At higher difficulties it gets some bonuses for players that want an extra challenge but still plays the same game as you are and doesn’t actually cheat.

No you have to learn how to out play the AI.

O no, the AI is better then you at a game you barely started playing! This is a literal l2p moment here...

and how should i play? because i did the exploration and colonizing part i did the building and researching and i am gathering the anomalies. What else am I supposed to do? like if i put the bots on cs2 at perfect aim and instant fire would it still be a l2p moment? u just need to getgud bro.
Naa bro u just need a beginner difficulty because i and other people would like probably to play this game but we also have other things going in our life.

Yeah way too much "having to know the AI" elitism here. I feel like the game is designed to be played by the devs who understand it and not a casual player new to the genre or game.

For instance, I followed a guide by someone that said you have to go and grab as many planets as you can early on, what ships to build, what cards to play etc. So I did all that and still ended up back here with people telling me I didn't get the right tech early on as well..

C'mon, this isn't fun right now. I wasn't having any fun being whipped by the AI because I wasn't someone who knew all the secrets and cheeses just to be able to have a chance.

Me and many others are gonna feel this way until the shoehorning is toned down a tad.

Actually the ai is one of the strong points of Gal Civ series
Frogboy is always tweaking the ai to copy the most successful human strategy
The strength of Ai is being able to micromanage and play optimally instantly
It's weakness is Adaptability and long term planing
