Is there a setting for "empty" home sectors?
As title. I'd like to set up a galaxy where I am in my own small or medium sector and only have to compete against passive threats until I open my slipstream gates. I've noticed in my games that several civs spawn with me in my sector, while there are many empty ones, including home sectors for some AI.

Is there a way to generate, say, 10 civs + my own in a small/medium galaxy with a large number of sectors where each civ has their own starting area?

Depending on your total AI count I believe Distant and Close both can generate empty sectors. To have them by themselves you need less AIs then total sectors.

That's good to know! Can I tell from the onset how many sectors will be generated with any given galaxy settings?

One way to achieve that is by using the "Far" civilization Proximity. If you combine this setting with a Large or Gigantic galaxy size, Several or Many sectors and a a bit less opponents, then you'll end up alone in your sector.

Personally I mostly play a Gigantic Galaxy Size, Many Sectors and a Civilization Proximity to Far and I always end up alone in my starting sector. As soon as I find the Streams, I blockade them with a bunch of probes (in all the hexes adjacent to the entrance) and that closes it up to anything wanting to come in!

You're welcome| I actually figured out that probes were really good at this not long ago, since they also ignore monsters, and very easy to build and are not affected by your range limit, so you can blockage those gates as soon as you find them. Watch out if you end up at war though, those probe won't do you any good ;)

A military starbase near the slipstream gates with a small fleet does very well. Not only does it extend your range beyond the slipstream gate but your small fleet can destroy ships coming through with minimal losses.
