Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell

The game doesn't start up (Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 1)
Since yesterday I cannot get the get to launch. Steam prompts "Cannot find the executable file." I tried validating my game's files and 2 files were not valid so Steam tried to download them with no luck -.- Steam stubbornly refuses to download these 2 files! I also tried unistalling and installing back but that also didn't work. Does anyone else have this issue? What do I have to do?

Note: The game was running perfectly yesterday morning but later in the afternoon it began not to work!

Hi, I am having the same issue today. Is it possible to uninstall a game and then re-install it on Steam? I love this game but i'm thinking of ditching it and trying to get a refund. No support for my monitor (1920x1200) and various crashes - and now this!
I look forward to hearing if anyone has a fix...
Cheers,

Ringo
Hello, there is a thread written not long ago explaining how to enhance the graphics and fix the resolution issue. Please take a look at this: http://steamcommunity.com/app/13560/discussions/0/627456487112204970/?tscn=1420476071
Unfortunately I still have this issue. Seems like I'll have to contact Steam support to sort out the problem. I'll keep updating this thread when I have more news!

Thank you. I guess i need to get off my soapbox a bit. I kind of expect that if steam wants to sell me a game then it should work out the box - however, it was released in 2008 and it did'nt exactly cost me a lot to buy the game!
I too am waiting for an update (it says its paused) before i can play again. Good luck with getting an answer - i look forward to hearing how you get on (currently downloading splintercell blacklist as i type ahem).
Good news! I tried all the steps at this page (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?s=daa6c023520b214a34602a30e09a473b&ref=8676-EFLX-7453) except submitting a ticket and then I tried validating my files again, and it worked!
You have Blacklist? Haha that's awesome! Have a nice time playing :P I'm planning to get "Double Agent" after finishing Splinter Cell 1.

That is good news. I'm not sure if that link is sending me to the correct place - its the same link that steam brings up when i try and launch? I deleted the appcache folder and that didnt fix it for me - maybe now, while its "paused update" it will work again. I'm actually quite liking blacklist - the graphics are great and its got some interesting gameplay concepts. It hard....

I enjoyed Blacklist, from a gameplay standpoint. I can't stand the new Sam actor though. Same goes for the new guy, Charlie. Briggs is decent though.

To anyone having an issue with the games exectuable vanishing, I myself gave all the official steam solutions a try, and not one of them worked. I traced the issue to my virus scanner. After a clean install of the game, you will find the exectuable in the games install directory. However, as soon as you try to start the game, poof! Gone!

So out of curiousity, I figured I'd reinstall the game, and whitelist the entire game directory in my anti-virus. Now the game starts up fine.
