the explanation is right there in INI file as you quoted it:
yes, having it on "ForceShadowMode=1" is the (what i read about) best graphics option but AFAIK new hardware doesnt support it and we need to use a program named dgVodoo to enable this function
id rather use dgVodoo and have the superior graphics with inclusion of 4K resolution, correct wirdescreen support and added HD textures.
here is all the info you need to make this game work as beatiful as it was intended.....and even better.
https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Tom_Clancy%27s_Splinter_Cell#Use_dgVoodoo2_with_default_buffer_shadows
but thanks for your input
To be honest I have no idea why you decided to post here other than to boast about being able to run the game even better, that's not what this post is about!, but you can put your info into your own guide/discussion if you feel that strongly about it.
I clearly stated in the title of the post: "A QUICK guide how to get shadows and light effects "FAST" and went on to further explain "while not as good as the original they do a decent job, still look nice and better than the default of no shadows and no lighting." I was aware of the dgVodoo program for the fix for buffer shadows and lighting before I made this post, but clearly my post is not about that but instead a way of getting PROJECTED shadows (some shadows and lighting better than none) FAST!!!
Personally I prefer the game without the HD textures and like the original textures, you can still run at 4K too without mods, comes down to preference in the end.
Yes it is in the file as I quoted it, but I gave an explanation also as some might not know why the shadows and light are missing, I purposely left the ForceShadowMode=1 set to 1 as to explain to set it 0 for projected shadows, you don't need any programs for this mode as explained, some might not want the hassle of installing a third party program for whatever reason to get the original shadows and light, which are IMO only slightly better, and this guide is for them, but thanks for your concern :)
thanks for your info!
btw:
switch out FAST with UGLY in your post...
the game can still look really nice with its light and shadow effects. and its still easy to achieve on modern computer systems....
i merely suggested to rather do so instead of playing a crappy looking version. thats my recommendation, nothing else.
everyone can run the game better looking, lol...
Seriously keeping this up over a year ago? No I won't be switching out anything to suit you!!!
like I said back then feel free to create your own discussion with your recommendations on how you feel the game should look, this post is for those not looking to search around (NOT FAST) the Internet and then install something (malware or do not have admin rights) and not for you so go elsewhere and troll there.
"everyone can run the game better looking" your clearing trolling at this point, not everyone knows how or has the time or wants the hassle of making the game better looking, my guide is not forcing anyone to read it only those who want help, your clearly not here for help, take your narcissistic ego elsewhere.
No prob glad you found it helpful :)
I am simply saying depending on where the file is downloaded from it could be, this thread was never about DgVooDoo to begin with (or now) anyhow. Furthermore the second half of quoted comment, "or do not have admin rights" is to explain that some users wouldn't be in a position to install anything due to lack of admin rights, hence configuring the file makes sense.
Regardless of installing or copying a file, editing the file is safer and faster.
you just use it to generate the D3D8.dll file, then put said file into the game installations /system folder. done.
you can have just the file if you want. i have it as backup, just in case.
it just looks much better that way.
in your OP you imply that its not possible to use anything but the ugly shadows with modern hardware, which is not true!
Still rambling on nothing better to do :) no one forcing you but your narcissistic ego, sad man indeed, stop crying ;)
I have edited the guide to include the following:
"THIS GUIDE IS NOT FOR THE DgVooDoo MOD but rather for configuring the games file to use projected shadows, the DgVooDoo mod uses buffered shadows and lighting which are IMO only slighting better and make the game look too bright in some areas, however if that's want you want please look elsewhere for guides on using DgVooDoo."
So "know it all" trolls like you don't end up in the wrong place crying ;)
Seems as you picking out older posts lets look at yours (concerning one)
In your post a year ago
"no harm intended =) thanks for your info!"
You then come back and edit your post a year later ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, with this:
"btw:
switch out FAST with UGLY in your post..."
Says a lot about your state of mind/thought process that.
FYI you do not have to install an .exe to get infected, simply visiting certain sites with javascript running is enough depending on your setup, and .dll files contain executable code so you better 100% trust the source before downloading, not forgetting the security of the file in transit, furthermore simply running any .exe file while logged in as admin (almost everyone uses the admin account, and Microsoft online accounts are even more unsecure "PtH") is enough to destroy/hijack a system if the file is malicious, you don't even need to right click and run as admin.
It's safer and "FASTER" to just edit a file, anyways gamers can decide what they want to do when they read this guide, stop crying hard over it :)
