I struggle with the keyboard/mouse because I never played it on anything but an OG X and IMO the mouse can't provide the finesse of the controllers analog tower.
Don't make the mistake of comparing the game to Thief, (never played it) but I've seen others compare it to the Metal gear games.
I was never able to get my win 10 game controller to 100% mirror the OG X controller, (with the PC version of the game) and as far as I've heard, (to date) SC1 doesn't have a controller program.
If you aren't willing to learn how to control Sam's movements maybe you should drop the game and find something else that doesn't require stealth
Go play the first two Thief games and see how woefully inferior this game is in comparison. It feels far less refined and open-ended, and slower and more restrictive, than said games, and they do literally everything better outside of graphics... which the third entry Thief: Deadly Shadows greatly improves upon Splinter Cell with.
I'm learning to accept the faults and am enjoying the game again now, but it's still a pain in the crack sometimes with inconsistent movement and AI, and a lack of audio feedback regarding movement. Its linearity is something that can't be fixed, either, and I can't help but draw comparisons to genre pioneer Thief because it just does everything worse. They are very different games, even outside of tone and feel, but the influence upon Splinter Cell is immediately evident, and so it's put in stark contrast.
I never played past SCDA, the company seemed to be walking away from the stealth aspect of the series and going for more image spectacular kill ratios
Thief or any of the other games you mention mean nothing to me, never played them, have played SC and haven't had your issues, so that's my elitist claim.
I don't know what fast rope means.
