Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell

One of the weakest titles imo
I've played just about every splinter cell game except for conviction since I'm not a fan of the departure from stealth, but I have to say after coming back and playing this game, it easily has to go down as one of the worst experiences I've ever gone through in a splinter cell game. So many ridiculous moments where the game shows an area completely covered in the darkest shadow and yet my visibility meter shoots ups in an instant alerting guards to my presence. On top of that the controls and gameplay have aged terribly. A good amount of times I failed the mission because I'm fighting with these clunky controls. I understand it's a product of its time, but oh boy is it terrible now with all the annoying gameplay issues it has. Just makes me appreciate Chaos Theory that much more now.

Are you playing with the widescreen fix and PS3 textures?
When I first bought the steam PC version of the game and played, all my familiar hides were still good. But when I got to Abattoir I discovered the search/flood lights, albeit lit, didn't reflect their footprint on the ground or buildings, (same thing in Pres Palace). Someone directed me to a fix in launch options and that worked. Also all hides still good.

Later I also installed the widescreen fix and PS3 textures at the beginning of Abattoir and most of my hides were still good but missing in other places in other missions .

As you pointed out the area is dark to the eye but the light meter and Sam are lit up with light and lead.

No, I don't have any of those. How do I get them? If there's a fix for that shadow issue it would definitely make this game much more bearable. I have other gripes with this, but that annoying shadow glitch is by far the one that gets the most rage out of me. If I can fix that issue this game would be a lot better to play. I can deal with the controls, but that shadow glitch has cost me so many missions that I nearly lost it at one point. So then these issues are mainly a pc thing then?

If you don't have the fix and the PS3 textures then your issue is something else. The only issue I had prior to the fix and textures was no searchlight reflection off ground. After fix and texture I discovered a couple areas that albeit dark to the eye had Sam lit up.

I'm wondering if it may not be a video driver or DX issue

Nothing more funny than a little fanboy who's inept at simple grammar trying to talk down to someone else. lol

nothing is more funny than some cry baby trying to grab some attention , shedding his salty tears on a discussion forum trying to convince everyone that his opinion on a certain game matters

Whatever you say little one. Keep trying harder and I'm sure eventually you'll get better at getting reactions out of people. All I did was state my opinion. You don't like? Tough.

He's kinda right, though. I've been playing SC 1 for the first time ever after having beaten CT multiple times over 15 years, and I haven't experienced the visibility meter problem once. Never had a situation where I'm in total darkness where the visibility meter shoots up suddenly. So I'm thinking you didn't apply the fix properly, if at all. One example that I've seen in the forums that stands out to me is in the second mission, in the streets, there's a short wooden tunnel that's completely dark with a guard inside, except that it should be lit by godrays shining through the holes in its ceiling.

Agreed with everything else though, CT and SC are just not on the same level. I think Abattoir is the worst level in the franchise by far, and I've played Conviction's Iraq level.

SC1 Vselka Infiltration inside 1st building. In corner where can see 1st wall cam. Pitch dark to the eye and meter but lit up so that cam sees you and so does BG patrolling the Hlwy

Oh, I wasn't aware of any DLC missions.

Vselka Sub 1 floor down, dark niche outside Galley Htwy, (hatchway) its pitch black, and meter reads -0- yet the PBG that patrols from the ladderwell to the Galley Htwy sees and vents Sam every time. Teeny flashlight on floor in niche used to be bright enough to blind the PBG on approach no joy.

There're bunches of lighting issues all over the place, I for the most part I found other hides or tactics to survive the game

I dunno, last time I played the game it was fine. Just make sure to use quiet landing.
Ghidrah1 Aug 1, 2020 @ 8:42am
X It's more than that, if one KOs everyone then they may not learn that they're lit up unless there's a wall cam about. It's very frustrating when your eye and the meter say dark but the cam and BGs say otherwise.

My example in Vselka Infiltration, (inside 1st building) where I currently take cover, meter says exposed, I should be vented by BG walking directly at me, then stops, turns and stands 2-3 feet away.

i agree,i love all the games but this one is incredibly specific on what can and cannot be done and can be quite clunky at times, even with fixes. hopefully one day they'll remake it along with pt and ct.
