Go to the game properties, compatiblity tab and enable "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibliity tool". Select a Proton version and then install the game and try to run it.
I have Proton 7.0-6 selected because that is what was available back then (2023) when I started this game, but I'm sure the newest version (Proton 9.0-4) will work too. Always try the newest version first. You can also look up a game's compatiblity with Proton on a website called protondb(dot)com or look for the "Steam Deck Compatibility" section on any Steam Game's store page.
It takes completely different resources and a LOT of time to port a game over to Linux.
Considering it's just 1 single dev and this is an indy, idle, free to play game.
Expecting him to just willy nilly get up and running a linux version for the fringe niche minority players on Linux is beyond silly. Just use an emulator.
