Portal cooldown reduction is what the ascension upgrades are for (as well as a crafted item that reduces the cooldown by 1 hour). Even better when you get the ascension upgrade that lets you choose your destination. You can also speed up kill quests by crafting the temporary item Alternate Dimension Staff.

I've done the 15k challenge like 4 times now because of the UA. Just use a macro and leave it running for like an hour, or use the crafting consumable that gives the 10x multiplier for quest kills.
