You are missing more than what you have stated then, before i Ultra'd the first time i could easily earn around 200-300k souls per reset. Are you using the bow, like ALL the time? Have you upgraded it to unlock all the Souls+ bonus? Have you used Divinities and what on? Are you farming souls in the right area as the enemies change value, Mystic Valley is probably your best at the moment? Are you doing Bonus levels and fully completing them, they provide big bonuses, same with the Chest? These final two are also important to combo, if you get a Souls Multiplier you should ALWAYS do them as the bonus gained is massive. If you have only gained 166k total souls with your playtime, it sounds like you are just leaving the game to run in the background rather than actively playing? (i dont mean for any of this to sound aggressive, just throwing out all the options i can think off that might be missed or help)
Yes the game is mostly running in the background. I hit 1200 random boxes in 2 weeks, that's more than active for me, it's a freakin Idle Game, should they call it Clicking Slayer...
You say "running the game offline is fair" but I can't see that tbh. If my progress is only coming from random boxes and bonuslevel, then there is no point of idleing. These things should make the progress faster, not even feasible in the first place.
Maybe I'm just unlucky, I really rarely get CpS or Souls Bonus from boxes and if, no chance in hell that I get the bonuslevel ons, sometimes the chest one, but guess what, always hitting the mimic in my first two clicks :)
Divinities costet 200k Souls, so that was a less smart question :D if this helps, I save my souls for this now (maybe tell me right away what I have to skill if I unlock this).
Clicker games and Idle games are near identical. I get the point you are making but not every game in the genre MUST have just Idle mechanics. There are already quite a lot of games out there that basically play themselves. This one chooses to use the Incremental increases as its major feature with offline gains being pushed based on the Unlocks and Areas you are in but it is much more an Active game. With over 300 hours, you really should have realised this by now, however there are quite a few games that do work more like how you seem to prefer. I could recommend Idle Wasteland for example, it might work better for you if you want a game to just run in the background that you click on a few times, it does have more Idle features than this, just throwing it out there for an idea. Not all games fit all people. The major issue here seems to be more that you want to let the game Idle when it simply doesnt work like that for this one. Idle Slayer is much more active than other ''Idle'' games. Personally I love that, as I already have plenty of pure Idle games but I get that you might not like that. Thats totally fine but its not the games fault that you dont like the play-style required, ya know?
For the boxes, they arent ''required'', especially at your stage but they do indeed help massively. If you have opened 1200 boxes and still dont see any gains....I dunno what to say. That doesnt sound right. Especially if you are using the Silver boxes as well and again actively playing. You will hit the mimic a lot with the Chest key, its just RNG sadly but if you open them often you will see gains. Bonus Stage boxes also show up so often that later on you will get the ability to remove them because they start dropping off in gains quite heavily, so again im not sure why you are having issues seeing them unless you arent being active. Random Boxes appear every 30-120 seconds so even at the worst, thats a box every 2 minutes. Silver Boxes also unlock every 30 minutes and give 4 ''mega'' boxes that will give either Double the standard coin amount or a much better version of a boost. Even through sheer RNG you should be seeing far more boosts than you state.
Im pretty deep into my second Ultra Ascension so apologies, I didnt realise Divinities cost over your current value. At the moment however im sitting with 1.2 millions souls to ascend with, I actively play and kill with the Bow during boost with all the relevant upgrades. Even with just a Horde event i can get a few thousand souls, more with any multipliers going. Not saying this just to boast, Im just proving that my tips do really work as Im currently trying to save up for Billions to get my next stage of upgrades.
The Bow is the MOST important piece of gear to upgrade early on, as it gives a Souls bonus with each upgrade stage reached, excluding a few speed upgrades for it. A lot of the earlier gear that seems worthless to upgrade, actually gains you side upgrades such as Boost gains and Magnetism along with just bonus achievements which constantly increase your Achievement % increasers.
Minions are also a semi decent way to earn souls, again they seem worthless to begin with as you spend more than you gain but they do start gaining profit, especially if you havent started resetting them yet. They have nice long timers so you dont need to micromanage them much either.
Crafting would be another one, i hope you have unlocked it as it gives you Daily quests and the ability to make new things that will also increase CPS and Souls gain. Assuming you have this, make sure you are trying to complete the Quests as well as some of these will unlock permanent upgrades. You can click on the quest itself in the quest section to see what the reward will be. A lot of these will upgrade the enemies themselves, making them worth more overall.
Again just to ensure the tone isnt coming across wrong, im just throwing all my ideas at you, sorry if some of them seem aggressive, not my intention.
TLDR: Dont get so caught up over the games name. This game requires active play. If you arent putting in active sessions, you wont progress.
All good, i hope you can find something that fits what your after a bit better! Again Idle Wasteland is pretty good, Soda Dungeon 2 is also pretty fun. Both are far heavier on the ''Idle'' aspect. All the best bud
Regarding this bit, I am feeling a little worried about the constant stress on my mouse or space bar, when I am going for permanent jumping/shooting, and unlike other clicker/idle games, an autoclicker does not seem like a reliable choice either.
Does that part get better at later bow upgrades (still very early into that; merely got the one to shoot while running so far)?
Yes it gets much easier, you will gain speed upgrades and an upgrade that splits the shots into 3 per click along with increased size on the shots themselves, eventually you can literally turn yourself into a machine gun if needed, filling the screen with just a few clicks
Now I'm still far from that point, I guess, but I am curious: Does that mean, it slows down again the speed, you are releasing shots (in which case, I agree that not buying the upgrades has pretty much the same effect), or does it slow down the speed at which the arrows travel the screen? The latter would be very interesting, I imagine, keeping the shots effective over a much longer distance.
