Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones

Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones

Entire trilogy is very frustrating!
Maybe I'm just old, but even at "easy" difficulty, playing this trilogy in 2020/2021 is extremely frustrating. Weird camera angles, changing camera angles, inconsistent targeting when facing multiple opponents. Inconsistent movement, inconsistent action on key presses. The user experience relative to the controls is terrible.

The games came out in mid 2000's, but even Half-Life, which came out several years earlier, had a much better and more consistent control scheme - especially for those using mouse and keyboard.

All the good stuff about the story and music is worthless if one can't get through the combat or platforming.

So I'm ranting about this because I'd otherwise scare my wife, my cats, and perhaps destroy my computer out of frustration. I barely managed to complete the Kings Road chariot derby using only one sand tank. Now I'm battling the Twins, but as soon as the Axe brother gets stuck, I can't take advantage of it because Sword brother hits me. And what finally gets me slamming my fists into things is when I press the keys or mouse buttons to move or attack and nothing happens! Which then means I loss a large chunk of health, the Axe brother gets unstuck, and I have to try, AGAIN, to get him to stick himself by fighting the Sword brother (and losing little bits of health). A single failure to register mouse or keyboard inputs near the beginning of the Twins fight basically spells doom and I might as well restart the fight.

I'll make some more attempts, but spending hours, getting nowhere, and having to replay the whole chariot race, just to face a difficult boss fight - with NO SAVE point in between is also frustrating!

The whole series as been like this, Sands of Time, Warrior Within, and now Two Thrones.
The user experience in Forgotten Sands was better - camera angles were better, controls for movement and combat worked consistently.

only time i found it frustrating was that escort mission in the elevator in SOT lol.
Warrior within bosses are hard af and can kick you across the map lol.
Two Thrones is the easiest by far.
The Kings road is easier than you say it is.
All you need to do is to trigger a qte by attacking only the sword guy and dodging the guy with the axe and hitting the Axe guy after that.
There will be 1 QTE at middle health point and another at almost the end.
It barely took me 2 tries to beat it.

Also FYI i hated Forgotten Sands for the clunkiest combat mechanism ever.
Also some times i couldn't see the water.
So it wasn't that great too.

Hi ! I don't know if you guys played it all on computer - I mean, all the games - but, in my opinion, the saga Prince of Persia isn't meant to be played with a mouse and keyboard... Playing with a controller is way much easier and more comfortable! You may say that because it is launchable on a PC, you should be able to play with a mouse and keyboard properly - and I must say, I agree with you - but at first, all the games of the trilogy were launched on home gaming system (sorry if it's not the right term, I'm French) and I know because I've tried it that the m&k system is a hell to play with... Maybe the developpers weren't sure about the success of the PC versions and they just rushed the controlling part, letting the player adjust it by himself, because, I'm not totally sure about it, but it seems to me that all the PC versions does have a way, included in the game, to be controlled with a controller... So I would highly recommend you to play with a controller!

As for the difficulty, I'm a 2010 player (I'm currently 19), and I think that the game difficulties nowadays are way much easier than for the 80's. When I look at the hardness of the fights of SoT or WW, compared to more recent games such as PoP 2008 or even PoP FS, I see that today's hardness in games (if I can talk about "hardness" for those) is nothing compared to the games of my parents' generation... So, if like me, you are used to today's games, it's not a surprise that you found it hard to play...
i only struggles on sot because its just boring and also everything you said.

for controls, it's just because this game was made for consoles, and the porting sucks.

Sadly I have to agree... However, I only find these games frustrating because they are so good and so much fun when its good, and for me that's about 85-90% of the games. If they were just boring and bad I'd not even bother playing for 10 mins.

I do love these games for the freerunning thou, I feel that Ubi has taken a step back with most AC games as the platforming feels disconnected, just hold a button and the game does the rest.

BUT YES, I find these games can make me RAGE!!!

The two brothers are annoying because the sword guy keeps hitting you while you only have a little bit of time to hit the axe guy. BUT to fix that you have to roll towards the other side of the axe guy. So the axe guy is between you and the sword guy. If he comes to the other side you can just quickly roll to the other side. The sword guy is way slower than you in terms of walking. This is how I beat it. When it comes to the controls, they are tied to the camera view. When the camera changes quickly, you have to quickly adjust where back/forward/left/right is from that point of view. Go to the gaming wiki to find fixes for various issues the game has on current system and the game becomes way easier. Its buggy on monitors with refresh rate higher than 60 for example.

I suspect that if the developers did a better job porting the game from Console to PC, especially with the controller to mouse & keyboard inputs, I would have been much less frustrated.

I also think my age is catching up with me. It is harder to adjust to different control schemes and my reaction times are slower. Combine that with clunky control schemes and some games become unplayable.

I completed all games on the hardest difficulty using mouse and keyboard and never complained. I disagree with all the criticism, this franchise does not deserve it. It's as if I, a PC player, started playing console games and criticised each because I couldn't do well with a controller…

Also, fighting in PoP is mostly 3 buttons + movement controls. And you can rewind time if you fail, or slow down time, or god knows what else there is… AND YOU SAID EVEN EASY IS FRUSTRATING. If you can't handle that, wow. I know it's usually a troll response, but you're just bad, sorry. Keep giving such absurd opinions and we will be getting games which play themselves, at best with quick time events which give 15 seconds to hit a button.

And good job completely ignoring everything that's actually bad about the game, or not mentioning anything that is good. Check the list of threads and you only see people complaining, cancelling the whole title because they can't beat a level. If you can't have at least a little appreciation over your bad skills, better don't speak at all. One of my favourite franchises is getting butchered by people like you who give it a bad name because you can't hit block or dodge. I know that even if I ever get a completely new PoP, it's going to be adjusted to you, made into an open-world RPG most likely, because action combat is too difficult these days for kids who play jewel puzzles on mobiles. Sigh, sad times for gaming…

Hukuro, I understand your point of view, I also find it really shamefull to sell games that are too easy today, but also I find it normal that poP is considered as hard to play with a mouse and a keyboard. I played PoP SoT and a bit of PoP WW on PS2, with a controller, and I found it way much easier! (even if I never passed through the half of PoP SoT, as I suck at fighting) Yet, it wasn't as easy as today's games (I also played PoP 2008 and PoP FS on XBox 360, and I completely agree it was too easy).

As for my part, I don't dislike the franchise at all, I found it hard to play, certainly because I'm really bad at fighting (even at Minecraft, to speak the truth), maybe because I'm used to today's games, but I also love lots of things in it, like, the story, the architecture of the designs, the way how we have to make the prince go through ruins to reach his goal, the OST, the characters,...
