FAR CRY DOESN'T RUN? HERE'S A FIX.
Okay, so I noticed most of you have trouble launching Far Cry (App already running, black screen, nothing happens at all, and more), so here's a fix for most of you. I can't be sure it'll work for everyone, just trying to help.

First of all, DO NOT run the game with lighting on Very High *, it won't work. This is not due to your computer being low end, it's just a bug or something.

When using High instead of very high, the game aparrantly uses ShaderModel 1.1, which is DirectX 8.0 instead of ShaderModel 3.0 (DX9) and HDR functions. So there is a fix to use Very High and it works, I just tested it out a couple of minutes ago. Heres the link:

If this didn't fix it, here's another thing you must do.
(Please note that you need internet connection for that one.)

Right click on the game in Steam. Click Properties, click the Local Files tab, and then click Verify Integrity Of Game Cache. Wait until it's done. Play the game, enjoy.

If none of this helped, then sorry, no idea what you can do to fix it.

*Thanks to PKMNChampion Green MoFo Oak for the fix in italic text.

Hope this helps, good luck,
Cheers.

I didn't say "Far Cry Doesn't Run On Ultra Settings? Here's A Fix." I said "Far Cry Doesn't Run? Here's A Fix."
I know lots of people that can't even get it to run, so it's better than nothing.

The problem with this is that you need to restart the game to change texture quality. There is a fix to this black screen and thats to put your lighting quality from Very High to just High and it should work just fine. I found it in a Steam Forum somewhere.

Well, you might need to edit again.

Thanks again, added your fix in the main post. Maybe you should've been the one to make a thread about this! :D:

Now all we need to do is fix the lag that comes from putting the shadow quality above med. Srsly, it bothers me that I can max out a lot of new AAA games and this 2004 game goes around 20-30 fps when I'm around enemies w/ shadow quality high or very high. Also, do you use FCAM? How do you proprerly install it, since whenever I try going both 64 bit and 32 bit mode, I get an error.

You know I've had this title when it first came out years ago, and this just seems like these updates have totally screwed this game. Even when I had it running last night, I have these shadowy black areas on all the dirt pathways. Now it won't even run. This is an old title that came out in 2004. I sure don't see a rush to make old computers run ultimate new graphic's games. So why didn't they just leave this title alone? And I thought everyone on this planet knows the old saying "If it aint broke? Don't f with it".
