Still need to manually install the 64 bit patch?
Or is it ready to go on steam now?

Manually install, it creates a separate new start icon for Far Cry. The 64bit version has the older patch level 1.33, not the 1.4. version, so it can be more buggy (and the 1.33 to 1.4 update patch you can find on the web is not compactible with the 64bit version). Also the new textures are not better than the old, the new areas are only in the first levels and have no savepoints, I don't think it is worth to try out.

ur absolutely right and wrong. :)

thanks for refreshing my memory. :)

v1.30 is fine for SP. So v1.32 is just as fine for SP. v1.33 and v1.4 only had MP improvements.

And no, u don't need to manually install the 64-bit.

But u do need to run the 64-bit by going to the 64-bit folder and use that FarCry.exe.

to launch it from within Steam, u can go to "add a non-steam game" from the drop down menu in Steam, under "Games" and point to the 64-bit FarCry.exe.

and u especially want to run the 64-bit FarCry because it improves the video and removes the CPU from the bottleneck!

Want to see the improvements? (32-bit versus 64-bit)

see:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/1677/3

Plus u can use a better config file.

try mine:

i made it years ago for the best card at the time. u can raise the AA higher.

I installed the farcry amd64 v1.33 upgrade to: Program Files (X86)/Steam/SteamApps/Common/Farcry and after the upgrade it made a shortcut to Far Cry (64-bit) on the desktop automatically. Then you need to install the farcry_amd64_ecu.exe extra content patch on top of that. Then install the Advanced Graphics Mod. Be sure to set your target shortcut with -DEVMODE - MOD:AGM at the end and good to go. It's a much better experience visually over the 32 bit version that is downloaded through Steam.

* Once you install the extra content update, your version will be 1.32

v1.32 is installed by default. just launch the 64-bit FarCry.exe. (Make ur own shortcut to it on ur desktop and/ or if u want to launch in Steam add a non-Steam game in Steam that points to the 64-bit FarCry.exe.)

But what does the extra content consist of? (Missions/ campaigns?)

The extra content for 64 bit includes the barrel storage area for the SP campaign. There are also a couple exclusive MP maps but those days are over with!

...okay just did some searching, found this - http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2869663

32-bit = v1.4 (DO NOT PLAY!)

64-bit = v1.32 (PURE BLISSFUL GAME)

LAUNCH THE 64-BIT FARCRY.EXE BY MAKING A SHORTCUT TO IT. (C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\farcry\Bin64\FarCry.exe)

turns out that there aren't any extra missions or anything; only that the advantage of running 64-bit has is a VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT FACT: it is version 1.32, and with 1.4 (the default Stream shortcut runs 32-bit) the A.I. will kill u faster than the best haker ever.

so do like my previous post says:

"v1.32 is installed by default. just launch the 64-bit FarCry.exe. (Make ur own shortcut to it on ur desktop and/ or if u want to launch in Steam add a non-Steam game in Steam that points to the 64-bit FarCry.exe.)"

by doing ^^ u can enjoy the game like it was meant to be enjoyed.

maybe the joke is that running it at 64-bit, which is version 1.32, is perfectly fine, but that running 32-bit SUKS!!! (Because running 32-bit, version 1.4, the A.I. glitch- it causes A.I. to see threw everything. and kill u fast. all of the bad enemy in the game will see u and attack so bad that the game is ruined. because FC was meant to be Rambo style yet very Stealthy at times. :)

32-bit = v1.4 (DO NOT PLAY!)
64-bit = v1.32 (PURE BLISSFUL GAME)
LAUNCH THE 64-BIT FARCRY.EXE (SEE PATH ^^.)

and yes, modify ur .CFG file for best looking game. the difference is insane!

i followed the instructions here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=14023337&postcount=3

I downloaded both exe files, put them on my desktop, installed the upgrade, then the ecu, then i added a non steam game from c/x86/ubisoft/crytek/farcry/bin64 (which i realize isnt C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\farcry\Bin64\FarCry) but thats where it installed by default. is that where i went wrong? do i need to move the install to the steam\steamapps\common\farcry....

after doing the install the first time all im seeing is white

nope. u need to start over. that link is from 2010. and u no longer need to do anything in that post. (update-wise that is.) Because the game is fully updated by default now on Steam... unfortunately i should, and shouldn't add... it's still cool updated, just never launch the 32-bit default. (all reasons why not are in my previous post.)

1. uninstall the game. (make sure the install folder is empty.)

2. re-install the game.

3. LAUNCH THE 64-BIT FARCRY.EXE BY MAKING A SHORTCUT TO IT. (C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\farcry\Bin64\FarCry.exe)

Interesting, I just installed Far Cry for the 1st time and there is no bin64 folder at all. Only the bin32 folder exists. I thought you said it now included the 64 bit version as well?

your saying the 64bit exe should already be there when i fresh install or i need to download the 64bit exe still and put it there? I also have no bin64 folder by default. and mine are located in program files x86, not sure if that makes a difference. also, i just bought the digital version from steam not a retail cd
Ziyinzhuangyang Nov 25, 2014 @ 9:56am
Easier way to get it working through steam. Rename 32 folder to something else, rename 64 folder to 32. Then it launches the EXE inside the renamed 64 folder.
WD4URA$$ Nov 25, 2014 @ 2:32pm
the bin64 folder is confusing me, is this something you need to add yourself? i see no folder named that inside C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\farcry\

i just bought the digital version from steam not a retail cd
MultiDoc Nov 25, 2014 @ 3:38pm
same here, what i did and got everything to work fine is this:

Downloaded and installed the 64bit patch, then add it in Steam through the "add a non steam game" and now everything works excellent
