How do I roll back, before the update? The AI really kills this game for me.

Get FCAM patch, it's an unofficial patch for the game. You can download just patch or overhaul that adds better textures and stuff.

But if you just play SP get 1.4.1 unofficial patch, just google it.

If you have a 64 bit system try the AMD64 patches described on this forum. Optimized for more modern PCs, adds better textures and some extra map areas. Reverts to v1.32, the best SP Official patch for FC.

However Uninstalling Patch 1.40 will cause the Multiplayer lost.
You will be not able to play Multiplayer. Cause it's just for Patch 1.33 and 1.40 and altered versions.
The FarCry 64Bit Patch 1.32 is just too old... I would not install it.

Everything is old about this game. Except the AMD64 version. It optimizes FC for more currenht machines. AND 1.32 is the best SP version for FC. The AMD64 patch installs a new BIN folder with it's own FC EXE so you still have STEAM's 32bit EXE plus AMD's 64bit EXE - two games for the price of one.
Gives you a choice to run which version you want.

so when I install FC I can run AMD's 63bit?

64bit (you typed 63, a typo I'm sure) All explained in detail on this forum. Use SEARCH.

FCAM lets you to switch between versions like 1.3 and 1.4 also lets you choose 64 bit or 32.
I'd go for FCAM, patch at least 1.505
