In Long: Yeeees
But no cameos though.
Just as you are very attached to the "8" in your first Ys, there have been at least seven of them in the past.
There are so, so many characters in the series that sometimes intertwine and color the story.
Now, that being said, the story of "8" is one of the most unique in the series, and the characters follow suit.
In Ys, "winged people" have been the basis of Adol's mysterious adventures since the first game, and in many cases they are depicted as "gods".
In "9", the "winged man" who was ignored in "8" has returned, albeit in the form of a homunculus.
In fact, I think that the super-development in "8" is being corrected in "9".
I can understand why you would want to focus on "8" because you had started ys at "8".
But don't you think it's important to realize that this is only "8" in the series?
1. Island of Seiren
2. Primordial
3. Game play looks so similar with YS 8
Dana's existence is pretty much modeled after Feena in Ys1, and Feena is the big senior, and old users will not be convinced that Dana takes precedence over it.
Do you laugh at this as the ramblings of an old man?
That's denying what's great about Ys.
If you don't mind a spoiler, I've already written about this in another thread, but I have a lot of other thoughts about 9.
In 9, there is a strong homage to Ys 1 and 2 at the core of the story structure.
The heroes are united by a noble woman.
Their descendants (or replicas) run wild in the present day.
One of them leads the way in search of someone who can fulfill his mission, which he could not do at the time, in place of his changed self.
Another one of them throws himself into "magic" and tries to solve the problem with his magic.
In the midst of all of this, Aprylis is constantly searching for a way to get things done.
In other words (in a good way), the story continues to be written by a smart female leader.
Yes, Feena(&lare)・・・・・Dana, and aprilis,..
I think that 9 in particular is a very strong structural return to the original Ys 1 and 2.
