Lunatic NG?
Anyone got good feedback doing Lunatic on NG? From what I understand and what I've read around the forums it's fine for bosses but not so much for normal enemies.

Well if you start Lunatic from scratch or carry items / skills over but still act like you start from scratch... not gonna like it. Remember the first Grindwald Nox, that seeing you and 5 others standing proud and looking so cool? Then feeling hyped up when the WAVE 1 appears? Then first monster comes out, you start running towards him and... BAM... Game Over, in less than 1 second. :ys9_whitecat:

But once you get to Ch2 it would be much better, since at least you can hold out long with a partner

Everything will oneshot you. Basically, just don't get hit and you're fine.

I've played a little and am now at chapter 2. First boss was fine, a few retries to get the flash move/guard timing back in mind. First Nox was about the same as well, only with more randomness due to more enemies and attacks I don't know (didn't play the game yet).

As far as hits go, first enemies were 1 or 2 shots killing me, first boss 2, Nox enemies 2 or 3 and Nox boss 2. That's with the Celceta/VIII items. So it's not so bad. Did use the 3 Raisins that you get in the prologue, in the Nox. Mostly wondering how the rest of the game will go though.

Well the amount of hit you can endure also depends on you are using the skills or not. If do nothing then 1 hit and roll the credits, else you might be able to sustain 2 as dmg is reduced. Anyway, you have passed ch1 so I believe it should be fine from here on, because the first part is the hardest to most people.

Still... I'm quite afraid at the lasers one at end of Ch3, the Spider, and especially the Final boss which is really chaotic lol

NG Lunatic (with healing item use ban) here currently at the final chapter. Also long time Ys nightmare & higher difficulties player. The major tip for the mode is simply patience. You'll need to understand the guard and dodge timings and use them a lot since everything will one or two shot you. Sometimes grinding for money to get new gear and experimenting with different accessory builds also helps.

Another tip is to always dash in fights and try not to jump and air dodge too often. Running around enemies and bosses is a good way to avoid some attacks and you'll kill your forward momentum if you jump and air dodge. Ground dodge maintains forward momentum though.

Probably a lot of other nuances to the mode but really it's best to test out whether it is for you or not, since if you find it too hard you can just change the difficulty in game to something more manageable.

So far so good. Haven't healed since the 3 heals in the first Grimwald Nox. (Not going for a no-heals run so I'll heal later on, just not too much.) A fair amount of retries though. Nothing too bad, though I did die a few times walking into encounters without noticing lol.

Yes that's quickly been what I ended up doing. Same as other Ys games though.

just buy a belt for every character that leaves you with 1 hp after lethal hit, and eat apples that give 10 hp, and you will be fine :actionadol:

Why, when revive items are so cheap and plentiful.

Honestly, Lunatic isn't that bad if you have any experience with Ys games. Especially Dana. Money flows freely, you can farm Nox for material exchanging. Makes keeping gear up to date rather easy. The game also throws the level elixirs at you. Way more bottles then Dana had and aren't temporary like in inferno on Dana. Outside food, there's no limit to healing items. Even on lunatic it's much easier then Dana.

almost got my lunatic run without ng+ done ,and frankly i struggled more on bosses than actual lambda monsters, except when you rush toward Balduq's fortress of yore ... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hell, them and the monstrums ultimate bosses are no ♥♥♥♥ to mess around with, even if you are a flash dodge/guard master

you spend a lot of time grinding, but it's really worth in the end, if i had to compared to its previous title, that is YS VIII, so far IX feel a bit stronger for 2 or 3 entities mostly bosses, lemures are always the same so their patterns can be learn easely, or maybe it's just me who suck with bosses, but really Vahk medios is on another level, glad it's a side story bosses tho

I carried stuffs over Lunatic NG+ to reduce the amount of grinding, but still act like I start fresh (i.e. weapons & upgrades, accessories & skills available in the chapter), plus rules of no one die in party + no healing for bosses. Gotta say... it took a great struggle to not equip Tir na Nong to obliterate everything, Maleficious and his lasers can go to hell

Maleficious and his lasers can go to hell

REminded me of dulan 2 in inferno, dude had no chill

https://youtu.be/6l1gFCJF0PA?t=87

still got PTSD from that, Galbalan was a walk in the park compared to that damn magus

and Chester ... they can go die in hell for the ridiculous amount of skill you need to survive their fight ... unless you get lucky and they don't start spamming their stuff

Hmm... actually Dularn 2 was easier for me than Galbalan, just keep moving around and dodge the swords. About her homing swords coming from both sides move you actually have to make the opposite turn from the direction you are moving. And don't waste your magic tanking the attacks you can dodge, the same for using Fire on him as well as you won't be able to guard his next attacks in time while recovering, pure melee is enough, even better if Extra.

For Galbalan the worst case is 2nd phase, where if bad RNG you gotta deal with Fireball + Fire Wave at the same time, which should eat your HP like hell.

For Chester 2 his 2nd phase is totally RNG so he could've decided to stay teleporting for a while before using charge attacks, which is kind of a D move when you have limited mana. But again, fighting him is much more fun than dealing with the sh** from Galbalan 2nd phase or Istersiva.
Lywelyn Jul 29, 2021 @ 9:55am
yeah i guess dularn and galbalan is about how used you are to each, never managed dularn's beam tho :p

but chester 2nd's phase as always fun to me, challenging and yeah as you said, RNG based, hence why you try to keep your HP pool up and pray you don't need to empty your mana with flash guards x)

The ch3 cage boss is the most difficult for now. I've just done the Spider and only needed one retry and one revive. Loved the fight but it's been one of the easier bosses so far. The cat made short work of it.

I've been reviving 1-3 times using foods depending on the boss/nox. Trying to keep it at one revive but some bosses are more annoying than others. Normal heals are pointless though.

I've not been grinding except before the ch3 cage boss a little to round up the levels, and to gather some extra nox for exchanges. Didn't use Elixirs yet either, keeping them for later. Not sure +100HP helps much anyway going forward.

Looking forward to the rest, loving the difficulty and the chaotic full moon noxes!
Lywelyn Jul 31, 2021 @ 10:01am
in lunatic the +100 hp are really not worth it, unless you've got the materials for crafting them to an abusive extends ( kudo if you farm that much lol) but otherwise na, favors, attack power and tempest elixir
