Music of Ys 9 has a lot of instruments in progression so it takes longer for it to be good. Marionette is perhaps one of the best tracks to me. What many don't seem to take into consideration into Ys 9 is that it is adapting the difficulty to match that of the NA player base. Notice how there are more difficulties with better descriptions rather than being told to 'git gud'.
As for comboing, it's pretty easy, but the advanced combo mechanics require you to swap characters to continue such combos (only applicable to regular mobs that you can actually juggle).
Combats are super easy on lower difficulty, but you'll find yourself dead in no time flat at all just mashing buttons at higher difficulty even on NG+ with carry over items. And of course the people who complain about difficulty don't dare to raise it above Normal par the course lol.
I honestly don't care about raids in Ys games but I vastly prefer Ys9 take. Much better traversal options so you spend more times actually fighting than running around like a headless chicken like in Ys8. Double jump also comes early so that's another huge plus for 9.
Music is a subjective thing but Balduq theme changes as you progress and the final theme is far less grating and annoying as Ys8 at least.
To me the biggest issue with 9 is its relative lack of side content. Wish the game brings back the unique field monsters that have been missing since Seven.
They have been expanded with each successive series.
However, So-called 'hold time' of many moves is much smaller than in a versus game.
It's worth noting that, since it's not a versus game.
As some of you may know, it's like an early version of Virtua Fighter 2, where it can perform a variety of moves in a very smooth sequence. 'Boost' is you're good to go.
Since Virtua Fighter 2 is a versus game, it became a problem as a 'fixed fitting' and it was slowed down by the upgrade.
As for the boredom, I think it's a result of the new approach of building a very large city, making it seamless, using gifts to explore more dynamically, and creating encounter battles, etc. It's not perfect, but it's irreplaceable fun for me.
From the image of a deserted island, 8 is a free and spacious exploration on the ground.
9 is a mysterious progression within a limited city, based on the image of a prison city.
I think this is an acrobatic development challenge for the series, trying to reflect the plot image in the system.
The fact that 8 is almost 4 years after celceta, even the original (ps vita), is probably a factor.
9 came out rather quickly, and I think the volume will probably return to this level in the future.
However, this is still a large volume compared to the previous games up to Celceta.
Same as Ys VIII : go clear this monster, go take this drop, go craft this...
Same as Ys VIII : the raid was also boring coz the last raids were full of monsters with a ♥♥♥♥ ton of hp. And ti was also button mashy : dash, guard, attack...
It's a middle age Paris, full of underground dungeons, how do you wanna give it as good music as an island with differents biomes and open air dungeons ?
Ys X will be with a new system of battle and new graphic. This one was the last with this gameplay.
if u can clear this game with smash button
I miss the fetch quests even.
what he say..
getting my ass kicked at each bosses and don't even try if you are under leveled but really in the end it's just that
your tastes are the problems, not the game itself
This is a Ys game, I don't know in which Ys you could do some combos but I don't remember being able to do that in the serie. To me, IX's combat is similar to VIII's but way better, the simple fact that the Extra bar fills way faster is one of the thing I like the most about IX's combat. Also, gifts. Being able to hook something from the distance (a lantern, a monster) is a absolute blast to use.
Well, before playing the game I listened to some of the tracks and it didn't feel good, but I guess I was expecting too much before actually experiencing them in game.
Now it's different, it feels different from the tracks I used to listen while playing VIII, but it's one of the good OSTs from the Ys series. My least favourite is still VI's OST.
The hardest thing about Nightmare and higher difficulty levels is that players damage is very high and the enemy's is very low.
Of course, the higher the difficulty, the harder it gets.
Even a single hit from a mediocre attack is enough to put player in trouble. And they usually come from outside field of vision.
Don't they know that?
Can they win with a button smash? Huh
