Spirit Lumber location
Where to naturally get Spirit Lumber (T2) ? I'm in chapter 7, and I haven't seen any spirit lumber drops from deposits.

Ore deposits drop T1-T4 ores, while stumps are only dropping Aromatic (T1) and Soul (T3) lumber (Edit: Also T4 lumber).

While I can always get some by exchanging crystals for it, I'm pretty sure it's supposed to drop from deposits as well.

Try to have all attack types (Slash - Pierce - Strike) in your party to increase rare drops rate. Also use sacramental with similar effect if possible. And they can be found by breaking boxes, barrels across the map like Ch.5 Groaning Grotto, Ch.4 Concealed Path and so on. Pretty sure killing Lemures in the city award it too although it is rare & tiny in quantity.

Or just meet Arche and exchange them from Aromatic Lumber instead.

I guess this works.

Stumps not dropping T2 lumber feels like a bug imo.

Or perhaps it is intentional, to encourage you on revisiting areas, besides there are not that many upgrades & accessories that need them. And in chapter 7 you can buy them cheaply too (40g a piece) from a certain NPC. Indeed the mat rates in IX is weirder and a bit grindier than VIII, but again far from totally scarce and impossible to find.

Can't you get that certain NPC as soon as you get Doll in the party? I think I got him in Chapter 5 or 6 when I realized there was something there to see with her power but you can probably get him even earlier.

In any case spending shards is also a quicker option. Easier and faster to farm, just gotta anticipate before a chapter ends.

Technically you can, but that is if you wander close enough that area to trigger a scene, or know about him in the first place, otherwise most people will just continue to advance (especially if they have cleared all quests, finding possible chests, petals and graffitis in unlocked areas i.e. no reasons to return), and the exclamation mark will only appear in ch.7 for you to check.

Nevertheless, around the first 4 chapters you can be tight on money since there are armors, weapons and accessories to take care of first. Of course you can grind the outfield but to a certain limit (since the Ogres field onward is much better). That being said, I had no trouble with Spirit Lumber during the first Hard playthrough, but those Crimson ores instead, leading to I had to skip some +2 upgrades.

I've not had much trouble so far with upgrades due to getting 200+ Nox before completing a chapter every time "just in case" (and doing that just before you complete the chapter is super fast since you are overleveled). Though in ch7 and now ch8 it does get complicated and I can't just upgrade before advancing the story a little. In ch7 I had to reach a certain dungeon landmark to get plenty of ores.

I guess another option would be redoing easy Grimwald Nox(s), some take just a minute the first time you do them so they can't be very long when you're higher level.

That's why from chapter 5 onward I started to get 999 Noxes before moving to the next chapter, thus around 5000+ shards in the end. That being said, final weapons and armors in the last chapter did cost me a great amount down to 2994 in terms of materials, also trying to obtain all possible accessories, plus couple extras for the whole team can be costly too (thus I failed to get 1 mil gold in the end). Thanks to that, I don't have to spend time grinding for them again in Lunatic, just follow - only equip possible gears & accessories, skills and upgrades in that chapter - and I'm great.

Edit: And redoing Grimwald Nox is not that effective in getting mats against buying them with Twilight shards or money, especially on Lunatic since you can still be wiped out easily if not focus. Though I suppose you could try to equip extend FG/FM to make it less troublesome

Speaking of more weird droptables.

Sunlit Greenery landmark in Milliane Planes has a bunch of stumps that have Plant droptable. It would also make more sense for those deposits to be flowers rather than stumps. Guess it's the original gamedev oversight though.

Actually, the flowers seem to be intended at the waterfall in the next region (mostly blue ones), the spot back in Cloaca Maxima (for common like marl), and the bells on top of the mount El Dore. Also you can get flowers from breaking barrels and boxes similarly to Spirit Lumbers, so don't miss them out while exploring dungeons.

Soul Lumber is also hard to find. Are you sure you found it in stumps? I'm looking for some but I get only rank 1 and 4 lol.

There are a couple of stumps at the Bell Bridge landmark at Emain Macha. Not sure if there is a better spot for those.

You're right. I had to go and confirm. That's impractical to say the least.
