Gord
Just played through the entire demo and I killed the demon. Heres my thoughts.
Absolutely love your game. It gives off old school majesty vibes mixed with like the settlers. That combo is fantastic.

Couple of things work noting.

The size for the gord is WAY too small.

Mission one its fine. but mission 2 i was struggling to find space for 1 of each building and 4 storage houses... recommendation - when you get to upgrade the walls you get to resize them and get more space ( that admittedly sounds hard to code ) so just make the size of the initial gord bigger.

Some buildings should actually attach to the outside of the settlement walls to help with the building spacing problem. Like the crypt.

Defenses.

I took my time on all your maps and i got the notification about a blood moon and how i was supposed to be attacked ( its a demo and I do not think i was supposed to take that long to complete mission 2 so I didn't actually get attacked ) but we need a town bell button so people can shelter inside for these. Also the walls and gatehouses need "tower" upgrades that even civilians can get in and shoot a bow or something from. Make it so they are like extra gord gates.... want towers for extra turtle defenses? Sure!!! Pay a crap ton of wood for each one.

Love the day night cycle and winter is gorgeous and so are the other seasons...

Danger and violence.

Honestly I played the standard game difficulty and there just isn't enough of it. Which I get is hard to balance. Because these game have a "tipping" point where at one moment all you have is a scout to roam the map with and he can't even take a pack of wolves or boars... but later you have two scouts three axemen and like 2-3 archers and you are basically just attack moving across the map.

Proposed solution. The enemy have "lairs" that constantly spawn guards that stay in the area very close the lair. this can range from a simple wolf den surrounded by wolves or a hallow tree infested with gazers or even an orc or goblin outpost ( you get the idea). These should be hard to clear... the ones closer to the gord are easier to kill ( wolf dens) the ones farthest away are much harder.. these provide loot and xp when cleared.

once you detect a lair ( and the lair has detected you! ) it will occasionally send waves of attacks at your gord. These attacks should get stronger over time to urge the player to clear the monster lair eventually.

That last one is honestly the most important one.

There is no need to do anything but turtle until you have all the resources you need and each one is full then just convert some people to a full military and slaughter the map. The pacing of the game needs to have this.

Maybe this is your intention in the full game and Its just not in the demo or the first few missions and thats fine just needed to say this. The game "Majesty the fantasy kingdom sim" did things like this and it worked very well. There was a modifier in the first game and the entire second game work so that the longer you left a monster lair alive... the more and more dangerous and numerous the monsters it pumps out are that come and attack your settlement.

Alternatively, just let us set the size and shape from the start.

you can adjust teh shape already by clicking the hexagons and dragging them around. But yes the size needs to be bigger please.

That I didn't know, thank you.
I moved all my villagers to fight but still get defeated by demon, so you suppose to level up everyone to be a fighter ???

I thought this game was focus on resource management not fighting :/

The demon that you fought is known as a Horror, the most powerful type of creature in Gord. They aren't typically meant to be killed, as the Tribe Leader, Bogdhan, explains that they're very tough and would require a group of experienced warriors to take down.

You have the option to fight Horrors, but they're incredibly challenging. This is why there are other options available, such as avoiding them or giving them what they want. In this part of the game however, you must choose to either fight Ardaven, or bend to its will.

you need to dodge its attacks better, I did it with 1 scout 3 axemen and two archers. not everyone being "warrior"

The Horror can be defeated by 2 archers and 4 axeman, after leveling up then, but only 2 of them survived.
Bigger problem the villagers are idiots, if their HP is low or their faith/sanity is low they don't drink mead, they don't bathe, if I send them there they sit there till doomsday, they don't go to work after regeneration...
I think they are supposed to be a bit more clever than this.

I was also able to kill the demon but I was not able to revive my fallen soldiers due to the cutscene :)

Is there anyway to readjust/rebuild the palisade once you set it down? I find it odd that you can set your village perimeter into a circular shape but your buildings' floor area is set to square making it harder to fit it in the available space.
WarMaster GoreHowl Jun 22, 2023 @ 10:20am
you can adjust the shape, drag the borders of the gord around and you can change it. for example... I made one of mine a giant square in the first mission.
