What is different than the original games from Sierra in this new version?
I've played Pharoah and its follow-on Cleopatra since they were released. (Yea I'm that old! LOL) From the videos it looks like this is simply an updated access to the original game. Is there anything that CHANGED from the original and is "new" and "different" to entice me to buy it? Thanks!

There are some QoL changes and a few new mechanics (for example, you can say the docks with which goods they trade and with what not).

But it is mainly a updated version (and many players even complain that the changes are too much :) )

the marketwomen don't run all at a time to the granaries when harvested arrive, and dissapear if they arrive the last and there is no food, as carriers, they only go when something is assigned to them.

i'm don't speak good english and don't know how to explain jeje. but now this is better.

and in the workers overseer you can now manage every kind of industry or service.

Like the OP, I have played the original game for 20 plus years (yeah, I'm old, too). Bought Pharaoh New Era when first released while it was on sale. Overall, I like the changes that have been implemented (Military aspects, I'm looking at you...), allowing for functioning multiple docks (just set each dock to the goods you wish to trade), allowing for a global labor pool ( I haven't tried that aspect yet). The thing I struggle with now is getting Culture to the required level (lots of post on that subject) as it is much harder than in the original game, particularly getting Culture above 55-60. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the game.

A few things I forgot. Monuments must have road access between work camps and Stonemason, Bricklayer, Carpenter guys or you get a message that that access to the monument is blocked (or words to that effect). Also with large pyramids, be sure they fit on your screen or they may not complete. Additionally, Grave Goods must be dispatched when the total desired number of item is reached because you can no longer send items piecemeal.

This is a remake and very close to the original with some smaller changes;

Trading is now a lot more effective:

Each caravan and tradespeople can trade 1600 of each good, so you can trade a lot more.

Docks are now working per good. And ships are approaching for each good they can trade a port that could trade, if you have the good in storage. However they don't go for different ports for the same good. So you should the ports to trade different goods.

There are more worker categories, especially nice is the split between storage and industry. You can also prioritise each type of building within the category.

Then you have different qol options
Global worker for, so you don't need a house near industry

Storage, bazaar and Docks can be set to accept none by default.

The military system is gone for now, however the new devs announced that they will implement a military system.

Monuments need road access.

Path is missing the build monument blessing.

Going below 5000 debt is instant loss

I actually like those changes

I find the economy works much more reliably than the original - unlike pharaoh-Cleopatra my houses aren't constantly devolving/evolving because a bazaar worker walked the wrong way.

The new military system, though, is terrible. Rather than fix the original they replaced it with a pop-out over which you have no control, where units just walk at each other (ie not like Legion, or others where you can assign orders beforehand). I'm waiting for them to revamp it before I play again.

The graphics are worse and performance is much worse. The sprites are basically upscaled but not very well in my opinion. The zoom is very limited, so I would say there's not much improvement over playing Pharaoh with the widescreen patch.

There's a bunch of cheats included in the game as settings. Global worker pool toggle seems popular.

The cute interface of Pharaoh is mostly gone, and replaced with a simplistic one that looks like a cheap mobile game. A lot of the advisor screens and overlays are barebones, compared to Pharaoh. I know this stuff is subjective, so go ahead and check out some videos.

Apparently a lot of the military stuff is also cut.

They added some animated cutscenes.

If you are really wanting to scratch the itch, and you really have played Pharaoh/Cleo to death, I guess you could give it a try. But it's not as good (I've also been playing these since Caesar 3). Arguably you're better off just playing the originals. Also check out Nebuchadnezzar, slightly different game but much better made.

You say "apparently" as if to say you have either not played the original or have not played the new one.

In that case you are not fit to make comment on a thread which distinguishes the difference between the OG and the remake

Personally I like it a lot more, the ability to default some setting or choose map wide workers instead of putting a slum house here and there just seems to make it a much more enjoyable game
The original has a better UI though
The biggest difference I’ve noticed (apart from the little QoL improvements) is the lack of stone pullers when building monuments and the fact that stones have to be moved by cart with a road connection to the monument.

For the most part that hasn’t been a big deal (although I preferred the stone pullers aesthetically) but I definitely needed to rethink my Rostja layout.

now the stonemason's workers built single, not in pairs as in og, this is better too, especially if you are short of employees, in og sometimes it caused problems

Thanks everyone for your comments! I think this remake is too close to the original for me to put out my scarce funds for it. I appreciate all the input! I'm still challenged and intrigued by the OG, so I'll just keep playing on it!
