That's from the old version. I haven't tried that mission in the new game, but just finished it's alternative (Waset) yesterday without a problem.
As you mentioned beer and pottery are your main exports.
I'll try following your tips
Btw, does someone know how to switch back to the alternative mission? it seems you cant
I can't remember if I did this one or Waset...must've been the latter since I don't recall having this difficulty.
Play it slow for the first few years, focus on always being able to rebuild your palace should it be destroyed. Don't build to much housing and if certain levels are fully reliant on imports simply pick a few bazaars/blocks to get the higher tier resources and keep the other houses cheap.
I often juggle the amount of imports/exports I do. In harder missions it is often best to pick one single resource for export/money and build just enough to enable that resource to be your income. The more houses (especially in inefficient blocks with lots of side-paths) you build the harder it is to get a postive cash flow.
If your biggest export requires imported goods, make sure you have your industry working at just the right capacity, don't overdo it, you pay way to much for construction, imports and wages while not getting any income at first. Taking it slow is sometimes key, especially since trading triggers are a bit weird.
Big tip: press F5 for a quicksave before expanding/starting a new industrial/housing zone. It is pretty common for me to become greedy and build to much. Only to find that my entire economy is going down the drain real fast and no way to climb out of the pit. Negative debens are to be avoided, the interest on debt is simply near impossible to overcome in some missions.
3 routes shut down permanently and one becomes temporarly unavaliable until you free the city from invaders.
Use game to farm shields and pump soldiers fast with copper.
General tips for a good economy are to carefully set imports, maximise exports, and balancing taxes and salaries. Feel free to use your manor's debens.
Oh, and Praise Rah if you can. that bird makes people buy!
I still believe "Thinis" is too hard to complete.
If anyone is also stuck, you can switch back to "Wasset"
(Rain-Gaming mentioned how to do it, thx a lot)
I'm stuck in Thinis so to speak. No problems with building, money and military (exept in periods the enemy attack the city each month which was devestating in the beginning cause there is no time to rebuild the army) - however - Men-Nefer trading partner shut down quite early in the game and they are the only ones that are trading Papyrus as far as I can see. I need papyrus to finish (10 common recidence) and its just not happening.
Also my personal mansion was leveled to the ground quite early in the game - and there is no option to build a new one. It would have been nice to be able to send gifts to Egypt to up my kingdom standing.
I give up now and move to Wasset. :)
