Stuck in Men-Nefer, how to trade?
I can't figure out for the life of me how trading works. I unlock the trade route to Perwadjyt and then... I have no idea how to "tell" the overseer what to trade, I'm assuming I want to "import as needed" for brick for the campaign mission? but months pass and nothing seems to be moving. I also have a ridiculous amount of other resources that I don't know how to export. The buttons on the left are X'd out, but I don't know if that means they're enabled or disabled. Any assistance to figure this out is appreciated. I'm not familiar with these games at all so the mechanics are lost on me without explicit instructions.

Same here. I gave it a Thumbs Down for exactly what you described. I've been all over the internet today but I can't find an answer. It's like you have to beat the money drain or lose. Wish we could get past it, hope there is a solution.

The x is when you need to stockpile something for a pharaohs request if you don't have enough in storage. if that x is not there you are not trading that resource you want to import bricks to say maintain 3200 that's how much the storage yard can hold.. you need a few bricks for the monument.. trade the papyrus, set that to export when over 200, and if pharaoh demands some.. use that x to stock pile it.. traders come about three times a year, look for the donkey guys...

Fyi go hard on producing the papyrus it can earn you a lot of dosh. just make sure you have a customer for it on the map.. make sure who ever you trade with buys it.. I think once you get your first 800 bricks, something happens i can't remember but you can put the momument down.. don't forget to put a storage yard down to accept anything you are importing.. so one just for bricks. one just for papyrus, don't bother storing the reeds just let them give directly to the papyrus makers.

if you really don't want to do it, you can use a cheat code to auto win and go on to the next mission. You can look up the old pharaoh cheats on google.. i mean if its really irking you.. cheats have to be turned on in the options menu. I haven't used them, but apparently there is a cute one with dancing hippos? I wanna see it.

You can only export papyrus in this mission (if that is the first mission with trade). And you need to open BOTH trade routes. Tough luck with the other goods. Basically, you need to build a bunch of papyrus makers and export when over 0 or 200. If there are no storage yards with available space for bricks or papyrus to sell, the trade won't happen. Import bricks to maintain 800 as the hauling will take time anyway and it makes a more stable economy. And make sure you have actually paid to open the trade routes (but I think you have).

The xs - the first one is stockpiling or using, the second one is industry on/off (this one is a bit buggy still). If stockpiling is NOT x-d out, trade is impossible. You can toggle on-off if you think it's a bug that is causing the issue, I think it helped me with turning industries off.

AND you can't open a trade route if you don't have enough funds. If this happens, run yourself into a small debt and more funds will be granted.

Last but not least, this game is meant to be pretty hard for a new player, don't feel discouraged if it doesn't work out immediately.

There is actually a bug that toggles the "stockpilling" button but it doesn't appear as "on". If you want to see if its on you need to click on the monument and it will tell you that you're stockpilling the bricks :( so you need to go out of the game and come back in, then it will show as toggled on and you can put them all on off...This bug is awful as its actually stopping the game to a point so i can't advance . I hope they'll gonna fix it soon!.

this is a really difficult mission.
I spent about 6 hours to win it.
the key to victory is the production of papyrus and bricks, as well as barley and beer.
make sure that you have configured your ports and warehouses.
as well as trade.
pay attention to how many units of goods are transported by one ship.

once it happened that I did not send troops to protect a distant city.
the city lost and stopped trading.
this makes it impossible to pass.
pay great attention to the gods - they will fill the warehouses.
collecting taxes is important.

This was frustrating me to no end. I believe what fixed it for me was setting "importing to maintain" to some number, because "import as needed" was not getting me any bricks...

Trading is easy enough, but they don’t do a good job explaining it. It’s a two-step process. First click on the world icon and make sure you have an open trade route with whoever you want to trade with (you have to pay money to open/establish the route). Step two is click on the Overseer of the Commerce, go to the item you want to import, and click ‘import to maintain’. At that point, a counter will appear in the column next to it. Just put in 2000 or whatever and you’re good to go. Make sure you have a stockyard ready to receive the goods. I usually have a dedicated stockyard for whatever I’m importing so it’s easier for me to monitor it visually.

Took me a while to figure out how to trade, the explanation just not clear :steamsad:

The world Icon does not click. It is grayed out the whole time, so I can't make trade routes. This is the third city in the campaign, Men-Nefer. I did the first two but only made money on gold mining. On this one, I can't even farm papyrus. Those are buttons grayed out too. What unlocks papyrus? I have stockyards full of pottery and/or clay. Why can't I make money on pottery or clay? It just disappears. There is no option for brickmaking ever, and the scribal school button is grayed out. I have all the farms, half chickpea and half barley, plus a brewery for each barley field and a granary. I have 2% unemployment, a palace, tax collectors, three or four neighborhoods, and all the blessings of the gods, and got my houses up to the spacious homestead (one level away from spacious apartment), still losing money the whole time. What "unlocks" the World Map button? I tried to go on population, and just made a ton of houses, but that didn't unlock it either. Can we make money on pottery when the World Map is grayed out, just to stay alive? Folks talking about dockyards; that's nice, but I can't get to that point, whenever it is, or armies. I switched from Normal to Easy but it didn't help.

There's something you have missed, the world map unlocks after you have tried out all the previous "new" stuff. So does papyrus-making. Bricks can only be imported. It's probably the spacious homestead thing? Can't remember exactly. Your only option is to start again, I think. No way to bring in money otherwise. Restart and read each prompt carefully, I think one of them may have slipped by. In the first few missions, the game wants you to do as you're told, you will be on your own in a few missions time.

The global map unlocks once you make papyrus AND build a scribe school.
The Overseer of Commerce function is confusing. An X in the stockpiling square means you are NOT stockpiling. So is you WANT to stockpile remove the X. You can STOP production of an item by placing an X in it's square so it means you are NOT producing.
3am above pretty much covers trading requirements.

I figured it out! Your storage is likely full. I set a storage yard to only accept brick and it started working. Then I built about 10 more storage yards as it turned out I flooded my haulers with papyrus and reeds.

There is an export dropdown for things you can export. And for importing you have to set an amount to import.
