If first bail and -5000 is expected then i am good. Otherwise the game becomes too slow.
i'm on hard but it seems too easy for now, maybe cos i still remember the game...
If it is like on the older games, the winning conditions are "harder" to achieve (more culture buildings, harsher desirability, etc) and there are more enemies.
It's actually a lot easier to run out of money in the first few maps because you don't have any source of money at all. Thinis has gold mining, but you won't be mining any gold for a good while after that map; a couple maps later you unlock taxation, but won't be able to develop culture high enough for high tax revenue, etc.
The real money maker is with exports, but even after external trade becomes commonplace there's some maps where it simply is difficult to make money (e.g. you may need some event that triggers after a couple years to be able to open a profitable trade route)
Great summary!
