Because the classic game could use a remaster.
As much as I love the OG game, it doesn't play perfectly on modern hardware. Even with community fixes, all of those games built on that same architecture have frame passing issues and whatnot. Like jerky animations that comes and goes. They also don't scale to much higher resolutions well at all, like 4K.
As well, Pharaoh is the most beloved but it also doesn't have some of the QOL changes made to the later games ether, which they are adding to this remaster.
Another thing I think will be great is if they have Steam Workshop support for at least custom missions and whatnot. They already confirmed that there will be a full map and mission editor with this new game, so Id be willing to bet that they intend on including workshop support too. Hopefully.
Remaking the game without many twists is not a bad thing.
