Prince of Persia: Warrior Within

Just bought the game, sound problems within
I bought the game yesterday after seeing it was on sale. Getting the gamepad to work with it wasn't too hard thanks to some guides on here, but I have the strange problem that I have no ingame sound outside of cutscenes. The intro has sound and so do ingame cutscenes (though I can do nothing while the cutscenes run to control the volume, which sucks, but there's always alt-tab) but the menus and the actual gameplay have no sound. I have yet to find any thread anywhere that reports this problem, so I have also seen no solution for it.
Might be there are more bugs waiting in the actual gameplay later on, but given these problems even getting to the first savepoint is just no fun at all.
Edit: So, I just verified my files and boom, sound back. The gamepad fix breaks the sound ..... but now I can't use a gamepad any longer.
Edit2: So, fixed it , but I'm keeping it up for other people who ran into the same problem. The gamepad fix only and exclusively works for the english version. If you have any version that isn't english, go and change it to english in the steam settings (not the ingame settings) and the problem is gone.

So, I've been battling with this problem for like and hour or so. I can't manage to work it out, I was able to use the gamepad and even change its setting so the gameplay would be much comfortable. But I have no sounds, any at all, only the Ubisoft cutscenne and Prince of persia has, but then nothing. I don't know what to do or could do. Oh, the game is also in English, so I don't think there's the problem, I guess.

Not exactly. The POPData.BF holds all sorts of configuration data, including language. So in the "fixed" file with mapped keys, English is chosen. But of course, when you chose another language in the Steam or GOG client, only those language files will be downloaded. That's why there's no audio. So you have to change the language in the POPData.BF too. But you have to do that in a way that doesn't change the file size! So don't use any text editor, but use a hex-editor like HxD or HexEdit. And when you substitute English for, let's say, German, make sure to insert an additional white space, because German has only six letters while English has seven. Or just look in the original POPData.BF; you should make a backup anyway.

Thanks for sharing this advice here 300Megahertz!

Appreciate it but please take care when posting not to revive old, inactive threads!
