The coal you get from clicking like crazy there is what you use to upgrade your Ether cards to Ashen cards. It is/will be worth it, but I will warn you, it gets expensive fast!

The coal you gain from clicking the bonfire all goes away when you leave a guild (both a normal departure and a loyalty reset), so it's not worth doing all the time... only when you're planning on pushing and upgrading cards.

The rate of increase of cost, both for the amount of coal needed to uprade an Ether to Ashen, and for turning the "cinder" cards in the bonfire tab from normal to silver, go up by at least an order of magnitude each time. That is, your first "ashen" card may cost 1e8 coal to make, the next one (after making the whole deck ether again) will cost 1e9, then 1e10, etc. At least for deck one, it goes up by more each time in deck 2.

For example, I currently have 3 Ashen cards in deck 1 and 2 Ashen cards in deck 2 (and none in the other decks). It currently costs me 1e11 coal to make a 4th in deck 1, and 1e12 to make a 3rd one in deck two.

The cost in spheres to turn the bonfire "cinder" cards from normal to silver (to help get coal faster) increase in cost similarly, It starts at 1e6 spheres to make your first silver, then 1e7, then 1e8, then 1e9, etc. So far I've only been able to collect enough spheres to make 3 silvers there (though I'm getting close to being able to make a 4th one during a run).

edit: while the left most 3 cards there provide auto-clicking on the bonfire to make coal, I highly recommend downloading an auto-clicking software to do it for you. The ones given in game go at 1 click per second to start (3 per second with all 3 active)... and if you turn one of them to silver, it goes up to 3 per second for that silver one (so one silver and 2 normal is still only 5 clicks per second), which is still rather slow compared to an autoclicker.

However, for speed at gaining coal, I found it most productive to turn the 13th one (from the left) silver first, then one of 10-12, then one of 4-6, and use an auto-clicker for the clicks.

TLDR: yes but only when you're pushing/ready to upgrade cards (when all cards in one deck are ether)
