[idea] Chess with an infinite number of infinite dimensions
Some of you may know or have thought of chess on an infinite plan, where moves are generalized algebraically. For those who don't.

A further generalization that jumps to mind is to allow an infinite number of dimensions. As long as the piece's move is computable -for example if they only move accross a finite number of dimension at a time, effective rules game can be algebraically inferred with relative ease.

One issue is that the more space you add, the harder it is to checkmate (you litterally cannot "corner" a king on an infinite plan). On an infinite plan for example, you need 2 rooks and a king to force checkmate. With infinite dimension, the issue is much worse since the king can presumably flee to ever new dimension, unless stopped by a number of pieces in the initial configuration that essentially makes the game finite, both in number of dimensions and size of each.

Time travel and multiverse as introduced by 5D chess however, solves that issue elegantly, by allowing to attack history king, who cannot flee.

So my idea is the following: make a chess variant with a countable infinity of infinte spatial dimension, coupled with time travel as in 5D chess.

Of course there is something very elegant in chess 5D with having both 2 spatial dimension and 2 time dimesnion, so one would have to come up with a way to make the timeline space of infinite dimension, for example by giving a choice as to where to branch upon branching.

A friend and me considered what happens in infinite dimensional chess with infinitely many pieces and we had some cool results, check them out on github pages: https://tsevasa.github.io/infinite_dimensional_chess/

If you are familiar with game values in infinite chess, you might appreciate this. We also had some discussions about this on the 5D chess discord server.

uh but if it has infinite dimensions then checkmate is impossible bc the king can just go into a dimension where he isn't in check
