Is castling supposed to work differently or is this a bug?

Explanation? The image has nothing of note. You castle by moving the king two squares on that board (normally impossible, so the game knows you're castling and moves the rook as well).

Check to make sure none of the white pieces in the past or other timelines are threatening f8 or g8. The king cannot move through or end up in check during castling.

I'm not certain what is happening here. You are in check, and I don't believe you can castle to get out of check... pretty sure you cannot if you are in check from a time-travelling piece. Normal castling rules apply if nothing crazy is happening, though.

I'm not sure castling is a good move in 5D anyways. If you leave your King's flank exposed, a piece can time travel and exploit that gap. So I believe.

I'm talking about the bottom timeline. In the previous turn I checked the white king with my bishop and then the computer escaped by castling. In ordinary chess you can't castle if the king is currently in check.

I am not talking about current the check by the white knight on my king.

In this version you can actually move your king into check. I have no idea why you'd want to, but as far as I'm aware this is a feature, not a bug. I think this is due to the increased complexity of checks in this game; the ability to check other pieces across boards, and intercept checks across boards, it is sometimes necessary to put yourself into check and resolve it on a different board.

This means that the rule of "you cannot move your own king into check" is replaced with "you cannot end your turn while in check", and as the rule "you cannot castle while in check" was put in place so castling wouldn't conflict with the first rule, the rules surrounding castling also had to be changed.

This was a bug, but it has been fixed. The current rule is that castling is prevented if the king is attacked or the thru-square is attacked by a piece on the castle board. This is the behavior in the current version and it is the intended behavior.
