Confused about the safe code solution (chapter 3)
So if the safe code's first two numbers are Olivia Grant's month of death and year of death then why is the 3rd number 23 when she died on the 13th? Is the logic that the guy changes the last number every year, matching the current year?

Only the second 2-digit number is the year she died. The other numbers may mean something else to the family, or to the shopkeeper, but we never find out for sure.

If anyone is having difficulty, the combination is this:

First 2-digit number is the number Elizabeth leaves it on as she tries and fails to open it. You get this by looking at the safe.
Second 2-digit number is the final 2 digits of Olivia Grant's death year.
Final 2-digit number is the date the shop owner Danny leaves it on when he opens it. Again, you get this by looking at the safe.

My take is that her dad would have been pretty foolish to use the entire date of Olivia Grant's death so he just used part of it.

Maybe the shopkeeper does have some pattern in mind, but why wouldn't he just change the entire combination the moment he got the shop?

If anyone's stuck elsewhere, I've written a complete Old Skies walkthrough[www.gamespew.com]

Yeah. I figured out what is the first number by looking at the safe but the thing that confused me is it matches the month she died. So if the first number is the month and the second is the year then I thought that the third one must be the day but apparently it wasn't.
I mean I know some cultures use day/month/year, some others month/day/year and some year/month/day for writing dates and none do month/year/day but still that seemed the most logical third number to me :D

You may be right - I honestly did not make the connection between 09 and the month she died, possibly because I'm British and we do days first. I just heard Elizabeth say that the second number was the year her mother died and went straight to that.

Maybe one of the devs can shed some light on this. Could the 09even be a coincidence?

The first number is a coincidence. I didn't even think of that. Sorry! In hindsight, maybe I should've made it random.

Ah okay. Was there some kind of clue I missed that would have implied that the last number is the year I am in?

thats probably aso a coicindence, you get the first two numbers by watching Liz (one on safe and one death date) and the last number by watching danny (on safe)
Oooh.

Got confused by this as well. Seems a bit annoying to have to deliberately die multiple times - unskippable animations and all - just to get the entire code, rather being able to intuit at least some of it yourself.

But sure, game's bout time travel, blah blah blah.

If you bring out your gun you can cut those animations short which is a small mercy at least :D
