Conquest mode critiques/changes I'd want to see.
So been trying conquest mode out and have actually been having a pretty good time without it, however there are a couple of things that really irk me about the mode so I wanted to give some thoughts on it with how it currently is.

First up, I'm not exactly a big fan of how the characters have been segmented between missions, as well as the lack of choice with them. Maybe it's supposed to be something for balance but honestly it's a little not fun to deal with. Characters are set for specific conquest campaigns, as well as stuck with the same item each time. Sure the characters you get at the start is from a pool, which I kinda think is neat to have the player have some variety, but it's also just a little too limiting and a little forced, honestly? Like why can I not get Lytra in the cherryblossom campaign pool? I wanna be able to use the characters I'd like in any campaign which as it currently stands just doesn't seem possible. On top of that not only are characters specific for campaign but their starting trinket is also forced. I don't get this, because honestly it feels *super unbalanced*.

Lytra's trinket for having archers deal more damage to flying units is so specific and especially since there are more flying unit camps then there are normal camps in the campaign. Comparatively, Rhomb, starts with a trinket that allows healing to cost half. The disparity in the power of these two trinkets is genuinely insane, lytra felt like an uphill climb where if you get Rhomb it just feels like you just win. I had infinitely more units with Rhomb just because healing was so easy to disperse and keep the team alive. I was virtually unkillable.

This comes to my actual point of me feeling like trinkets should also be a randomized thing, and not just stuck on specific characters. I'd love to see some of these crazy token/trinkets appear as things I could use on other characters to have fun with. Currently choice I have doesn't really feel like a choice, I wanna be able to choose at *least* my starting character in the roguelike mode and not be forced to select from a pool that the game has decided I'm allowed to use.

With that being said though, it does feel deliberate, and I don't mean that as in a bad way. It feels like every characters trinket, and starting group, as well as what campaign they are in feels like what the devs wanted to be there and have balanced those campaigns around, and while I can see that, I unfortunately think it wasn't really a good call in terms of the amount of fun that can be had with the mode. It's currently making some characters feels much stronger than others to me, like I said with Rhomb and Lytra, Rhomb just has infinitely more use than Lytra it feels like, or at the very least he just feels stronger to play as over her. It just feels like I'd be having more fun if I got to pick a starting character, then picked from a random pool of trinkets honestly.

Okay so that was point one, point two is just more of a general balance discussion. I'll straight up admit, I have not played enough advanced wars games to know what is balanced and not, so I'll just talk about what I'm feeling from the campaigns. Like i mentioned in that last point, conquest campaign two is a ranged/flying game, which feels really unbalanced. Units that counter flying units are extremely expensive and hard to come across, and I have had multiple situations where all that's left on the field is one flying enemy but no single unit can do anything so I just sit there waiting to lose. If anything idk if flying units need a nerf but it would be nice that if I'm put into "checkmate" like that the match will just hit me with a loss and not make me sit there. Oh yeah also whatever the grass dude's name is starting with an ability that causes the harpy/flyer unit to not be able to attack other flying units feels so odd to me, that feels like you're just setting yourself up to fail picking that lol

Item balanced in conquest is also kinda insane, but I honestly don't think much needs to change with it, (coping here so Archer: Hero sword my beloved isn't touched lol). Nothing here really sticks out to me at least currently, the only broken one feels like you earned it to be broken with the price, and maybe some items are a little underpowered? Again, I do not know the balance of these types of games so I'm not going to pretend like I do lol

In any case, I think that's all i really have to say, I'd love to see what others are feeling with the mode, I honestly made this just because I really dislike how we just, aren't allowed to pick a character. It feels like it goes super against how a rougelike is supposed to be really go, and it's sorta making me stay away from specific characters cause, if I like a specific characters look/ability, but don't like their trinket, it's just going to keep me from even really experimenting. TLDR, I wanna play Lytra outside of one campaign pls thx

i may have only played 1 conquest in the full game but some more in the demo...and in the demo the effects were actualy random and not commander spesific, but what i read is not realy good, i dont even like the fact that commanders are randomly sellected, would make sense if commander was free to sellect and then you get like 3 or so randomly powers as before, because if commander and powers are allways together then there realy is no reasons to sellect one over the objective better passive power...and units, flying enemies seem to be problematic in a mode like that, even more so archers are 500 gold??? thats honestly WAY to much even if they have some range they are still easy pickins to get killed, and items? heavy armour is one of the strongest things and can be a big roadblock for the player if an enemy has that thing...like that one flora knight....ye and sometimes rng is so bad you just cant even have a chance of winning

The lucky coins were random in the beta but yeah it seems like they're commander specific now which is a bad change given how much better some coins and the fact that good commanders like Mercia get a good coin while Nadia (the worse CO in the Cherrystone conquest) has a pretty useless coin unless you get decimation after first boss, even then it's still better to just have decimation from the start.
