Pay attention to climbing hook when you set your each anchor point, the difference is very subtle. If it sparks, you can't put it there. If it sinks in like in the training course, you won't fall from there.
The route starts from jump, grab, move right, move down what you can (you're able to get lower by hanging with only one arm), then take a leap of faith and let go / drop down a little, try catch mid-air next area that looks like climbable.
When that's done, you can do the rest. May take a few tries, margin of error is pretty small. Don't hang around too long though, you have limited oxygen supply.
There are also new options in the menu for climbing just with one button and such to make it even easier.
I tried for probably 20-30 mins straight and kept falling to my death.
Turns-out I did not uninstall yet, so maybe will try this weekend again.
The rythm is you jump against the wall and press both buttons to hook your pickaxes into the rock. Then you let go of ONE of the buttons which will also let go of that pickaxe and arm in the game. Then you MOVE into the direction you want as far as you can stretch that arm and press the button again which will lock the pickaxe again into the rock.
Then you let go of the OTHER button/arm and move them also in that direction as far as you can go and press it again. Now you have space again to stretch your first arm and rinse and repeat.
Its really just this rythm of let go of one button, move, press again, let go of the other, move also, press again, back to the start.
After a while its super easy and you speed climb around like a spider.
Did it on gamepad, dont know if its any easier there but should be not much different on keyboard.
If this is the part where you need to get out of that ice cave before freezing after falling into it, the trick is the camera position.
Do NOT look at the ice wall you want to jump to which is behind you, doing that will make the jump fail 100% all the time. Focus the camera behind your character on the ice wall you are on , THEN press the move + jump button combo.
Kathy will jump backwards and turn around in the air, right away press both pickaxe buttons to hook into the other wall.
That part did drive me insane also, its just very poorly explained with the button prompts.
Here's what it looks like. Compared to Youtube gameplays, it's definitely a bug, but only in this climbing section fortunately (I finished the game yesterday without further issues).
