Account hacked and banned
So I had a hiatus from RuneScape for a time, and I come back to find out my account was hacked, used for real money trading, and subsequently banned. How is this still a problem? I remember this being a problem with botters back in the day where people would lose their accounts to botters hacking them and using them to bot. I really dont want to lose all my progress on my account, is there ANY recourse I can take?

Thanks

Tried that, cant appeal this kind of ban in the normal way.

Only chance is reach out to a jmod direct on twitter then
Mistakes have happened and bans get overturned daily but vast majority are clear cut and the ban stays

The only time people lose their account is when they have an easily guessable password, you give out your password. People don't just get "hacked" without some kind of action from themselves.

not easily guessable, you cannot really just guess someones password and trying to brute force with a script would take millennia, what really happens is a lot people use the same password for everything, then over the years lots of data leaks happen from various sources and your email and password combo appear in excel sheets spread around or sold around, then its a simple script to have a bot go through long lists trying to log in to accounts

this is a huge reason i use randomly generated passwords for each thing i use, no password is the same and everything is 2FA using my phone rather than 2FA through email

Yep just put your email old and new into a trusted checker and see how many people have the email and any associated passwords to it lol
Old games esp like evony or any russian/ asian game for that matter are infamous for selling off your details, they just hope you used the same info elsewhere

for sure, stay safe out there, on a weird tangent, this talk of being hacked reminded me of something old, i remember as a kid playing runescape and some people were trying to get people to type their passwords in chat, can't remember what it was exactly but i think it was along the lines of if you type your password with some character it shows as stars, saw many people do it with instant regret, it's like someone asking what a keybind for something is and people saying alt+f4
