OSRS also has alts no? And bots...
No idea. I think I've heard something like 20% perhaps.
But sure, it has more active players regardless.

That's precisely why, Jagex doesn't care to improve as long as people keep paying for slop.
And OP's solution to "free money" is to... not take it... why would a for profit company do that.

Jagex's own numbers of how many bots they ban a week seems to suggest otherwise.

96,000 players currently on OSRS, 18,000 on RS3. But you HAVE to assume that a big portion of the RS3 player count is alt accounts, because it is. RS3 is heavily alted. As far as I'm concerned alts don't count as unique players. RS3 is in a sorry state.
Dead = 0. You are off by 18,000.
Also OSRS is like 80% bots.

i always get the feeling necromancy was tongue in cheek response to these "game is dead" claims. it means enthusiasm towards the game is dead, and not all operational activities of the game have ceased.
Jagex bans over 67K bots per week in OSRS.
So yes OSRS is mostly bots.
OP is correct and i agree i dont consider 1 guy with 10 alts to be 10 players. Jagex dosnt care though, they ignore the facts and advertise stuff like 300m+ accounts created. LOL we all know whats going on there. A quick and fullproof way to check the player count is to just log into the RS3 lobby and add up all the players in the worlds, shouldnt take long most worlds arnt sitting at over 100 players these days, some worlds sit in the single digits, imo they need to scrap ALOT of these worlds.

As far as shutting down the game goes, meh i dont see it happening, at the end of the day ive still put in like 10k+ hours into my rs3 character who is maxed, id be upset to see all that time gone forever, even if i pretty much only play OSRS now.
rs3 is where the og phats are and those are worth a lot!

RS3 is heavily 'alted'? Says who? Do you have a source for this?

We already know the 07 game has a huge amount of bots anyways, why are you comparing numbers?

A couple wonderful places would be Arch nodes and Incandescent Wisps if you needed a good place for proof of that. World 84 also has plenty of players you'll see the same name with minor changes in numbers.

Basically check any resource place after an update and for the first week, look at the names of the players. Obvious alters are obvious when you're looking for the trend.

This isn't even a recent thing in RS3, so I'm more confused why you're surprised this is a thing that happens quite often.

Back in my day in the 2000s bots were all bald middle aged men wearing brown and annihilating the local forests with goatees.
Theyre like the RS equivalent of drone like tired office workers you pass by on any city street in the morning.
