Returning player, question about melee weapon types
I'm a high level f2p player so this pretty much pertains to rune weapons. I am also ignoring 2h weapons and damage types (crush, slash, stab) in this question.

From what I've read, weapon types of the same tier essentially have the same dps. So for example, is there any reason to have a scimitar over a mace? Since maces give a prayer bonus, are they just slightly superior to all other 1h weapons of the same tier?

like you prob already know different mobs are affected by different types of attack (melee, range, mage). what you may not know is there also affect by what type of weapon it is (for melee its crush, slash, stab). besides that theres the weapons speed and damage ratting, the faster the wep the lower the damage ratting.

in the end the differences is so small it dosnt matter, even more so for f2p. just pick what you want. i do remember back in my f2p days (04) that scimmys were the fav/meta wep to use

I was aware that mobs were weak to crush, slash, and stab, which is why I said I was ignoring those.

Maybe a better way to phrase my question is if you were fighting a mob in melee, and that mob had no particular weakness to crush, slash, or stab, would all rune 1h weapons do the same DPS? And if that is the case, wouldn't a mace be better than any other 1h weapons because they have a prayer bonus?

kind of.... the faster the wep the less damage it normally does.

so lets say a wep group can do 10-15 damage. the fast weps will hit 10 alot. when the slow weps will hit 15 much more often

This is only true if you're going by legacy combat. In the current system, you will very rarely be auto-attacking, so for all intents and purposes all rune weapons are exactly the same. Assuming weaknesses aren't a factor, a rune Scimmy will have the exact same Slice damage as a rune dagger.

Of course, there are some advanced methods involving getting in auto attacks here and there, but those probably aren't relevant to any f2p players unless you really want to optimise your Giant Mole dps.

100%

As a f2p you dont need to worry unless your bossing (not really worth it) or pvping
