I just got a temporary ban for something I didn't do.

It's so weird. I got hit with a temporary ban for macroing in Runescape, I wouldn't even know how to macro in Runescape. I've apealled, but this seems a little weird, especially on a paid account. The assumption is that I have violated the T and Cs but I haven't. Is this normal?

Does it say it happened in Runescape or Old-school runescape?

Runescape has abhorrent password security so having your account hijacked isn't uncommon.

A macro usually refers to having a bunch of actions/button presses mapped to a single key. Some third party programs like Logitech G and Razer let you do this. You wouldn't happen to have anything like that set up, would you?

Basically if you have any sort of thing set up where pressing one button acts as multiple different button presses at once, it's a macro.

Again, when I came back to the game after a couple of years, I was "perma-banned for botting in OSRS" when I didn't even start a character on OSRS.

The account was hijacked at some point that I had gone, I appealed it to Jagex, and they reversed the ban because the botting came from a suspicious IP.

Saying "Oh it wasn't me" means nothing to the likes of you or me because we're required to go on the person's word. Time and time again has proven cheaters will do this very action in an attempt to gain pity.

As far as I'm concerned, the OP botted, was caught botting, and are suddenly surprised they received punishment. Proper account security prevents randoms getting on your account. If that wasn't the case, I wouldn't have an account for 16+ years that's never been breached.

2FA, Security Questions, Email protection and building a password that isn't "password" adds more protection then you realize. But nah, let's ignore that 26 letters + 10 numbers times the length of the password = a robust password that isn't easily guessed. But that would suggest the problem might have been you...So it makes sense why you're blaming everything but yourself. I know it's tough for some people to actually accept that they might have been wrong.

The whole "2004 password iz unsecure" is a pathetic attempt at projection. It's almost as bad as a copout as trying to suggest someone brute force guessed your password.

Doesn't Jagex support 2FA? Your password strength/their password security isn't AS relevant if you're using their authenticator, which if you care about your account's security, you should be.

Only recently, doesn't help much when the breach happens over a period where you aren't playing and aren't going back to your old accounts to set up 2FA just in case you come back.

2014 was 7 years ago. Last I checked, the better part of a decade is not "recently".

You know, it's okay to admit you made a mistake. But there's really no reason to project it onto Jagex when everything shows otherwise.

Even though in the disclaimer Jagex claims there bot detection is always correct and doesnt wrongfully ban. 7 years ago A Jagex Moderators Report was all the system needed to take my account Which I had a single letter username. They then gave my username away, then un"perma"banned me, returning account back same stats and items just stole my name. Then when I reached a 10b bank value on a stream month or so back, conveniently next day. Im banned again because of there bot detection program, i ask for evidence.....all they could say was a Moderators Report. Before I could even file an apppeal, I was again unbanned. And now I hear they fired an employee who was stealing peoples accounts and reselling the names and items. Conveniently Both bans were during his time at Jagex. I want my single letter username back. Especially now that I know they are prosecuting one of there own, its too coincidental.
