I literally just logged in, and with all the free stuff I got for being member for a few months on OSRS, got to level 45 ranged without ever leaving Burthorpe. This game has less than a quarter the player count of OSRS. Just let this game die and give us true '07scape

Another reason that RuneScape is dead is because of the official community forums being moved over to Discord.

I was a paying customer who got banned for sharing the Circle of Diversity meme. I did not receive a warning and was not even informed of the ban; I was simply booted from the server.

It's not dead, but it's definitely a shadow of what it was. Made abundantly clear by "what is was" being a playable option that is much more popular. RS3 is just a wringer to squeeze as much cash out of the whales while OSRS pulls in the bulk of the playerbase who want an actually good game.

It's not all bad, there are legit good updates now and then like Necromancy, but even those bits of content are always going to be tainted by the looming MTX spectre.

I've also noticed this. I made a relevant comment on the Discord on how poorly optimized the game engine is (RS3 doesn't work properly on anything other than a newer computer despite technically being over 2 decades old) and a mod very quickly deleted the message.

This is nothing new though. I had similar problems with fmods when the forums existed. The qualifications for any community leadership role must include "inability to accept any criticism" (except whoever's modding the steam forums you're probably cool ). Oh, and the wiki guys are alright but that's second-party.

Removing toxicity and bullying is one thing, but them having little ability accept that the game has problems is gross. I'm guessing it has something to do with the relative emotions of some people staying after EoC and them being fine with garbage.

Side note: That Discord conversation convinced me to not renew membership this year. I'd rather spend $100 on indie games that I'll never launch. Might be back in 2026 or never idk

Jagex is more focused on catering to the feelings of the emotionally fragile than they are on fixing actual issues.

The only updates we get are intended to increase membership sales, not to fix longstanding issues that either worsen or grow in number. Fixing gameplay issues is not the same as adding content to sell memberships. Stop conflating, and stop coping. RuneScape's economy is notoriously broken, mini-games are dead, PvP was killed, dug up, and killed again, microtransactions are becoming increasingly prominent and desperate, and the community forums were replaced with a Discord server that permanently bans paying customers for making jokes or sharing memes.

I am seriously sick of LGBTQ and feminism. I cannot even pick up a book written in the last 50 years without being bombarded with feminist garbage, and it even plagues most RuneScape content made after EOC. Not to mention that Jagex has been tracking the pay gap myth since 2016.
