Prayers reduce dmg but it's not the only thing you need to account for. But it's going to be crazy lengthy and I'm probably not the best person to ask since the days when I was low level was a decade ago.
D-hide armour is awful for this type of PVM content, it's not Power Armour, and it's defensive stats are low enough that any melee class enemy is gonna mess you up entirely AND if you're carrying both a full set of Subjugation, Dragon Hide and weapons for the respective styles, it's no surprise you ate struggling with inventory management.
You also failed to mention what weapon tier you are using, while for an experienced player, the Fight Caves can be easily completed in Lunar Armour with a Guthix Staff, it's highly recommended that you use a minimum of a tier 75 weapon (Vanquish) or the tier 78 Sunspear, failing these two you could also use the tier 70 Ahrim Staff or Tier 80 Chaotic Staff (assuming you're using magic).
And as Troja mentioned, depending on how much bossing you have done so far, the Vampyrism Aura is only 5000 marks of war and will help you immensely here.
Whether you are an old school player coming ro rs3, or a returning player from long ago where protection prayers used to eat 100% of the damage coming towards you, the game has evolved and changes a lot since then, and you MUST appreciate how much prayer would trivialise combat in the modern game if it behaved as it used to (100% protection) every boss would be an absolute joke and combat would feel almost risk less and even pointless to an extent.
Spitting the dummy and giving up isn't going to help in any way, shape or form, practice, ask for help, look up a guide, use the wiki to it's fullest extent, there is a reason that the RS3 wiki is officially supported by the developers, even to the point that they literally have a /wiki command AND a wiki search button built right into the chat box, use it, it will help you.
i am currently lvl 100 , i have no problem keeping prayer points going , i've used crystal bow/crystal wand , have no problem with my damage quite often hitting 2.5-3k (without damage boosting pots) i also safe spot all melee'ers , prayer switches bound also , reinforced slayer helm (i read in a few places this is useful) and no i don't carry both sets i use ONE set and i've tried both range and magic only runs .....no matter what i do i'm almost constantly taking 5-600 damage from the rangers/mages with prayer on , little to no melee damage at all and the birds are a non issue
If you're still looking for help hit me up i can give you pointers.
