Jagex wants you to pay for the game; that is, most of the game is locked. It's okay for newbies to start with, but eventually, you will run out of quests to do, and it does get hard to level your skills on non-members.

I don't understand why people have such a hard time paying for a subscription service, or at least can't wrap their head around the logic. It's a live service game. Things regularly get added, so you are paying for continued service plus whatever benefits they throw at you

Now MTX on top of a subscription, that's a different story

The free game is effectively a demo for the main game. I don't know why they still call it a free MMO; that might have been true ten years ago but "free MMO" means something very different now.

(Also, if we're going to start retroactively calling all MMOs "live service" games I'm going to start biting people.)

It's a long story, Money is needed to keep the servers and stuff up, so they made it where you need to pay to play the expansion and stuff.

Game's old, it has history and why things are like that.

if they need money to pay for the games updates why would the game itself not cost money

Because it is f2p, and always has been. It would hurt the coumminity to do a purchase and play. In fact I have seen games go pucrhase to play to f2p if game doesnt sell well, but f2p to puchase to play is strange lol. Just make money for bonds, then use that bond to do member stuff but more important make money since money making as member is like fast. Forget leveling to 99, as that will come naturally anyways.

Because historically demos have been a very effective way to get people in through the door, and getting people in through the door is by far the hardest part of making money off a subscription model.

these are all good points and i would be fine paying for a membership but the problem is its not cheap either 80$ for 6 months is kinda ridiculous

That is if you pay the full price. Buy Premier Membership for $80 and get 12 months and a lot of other stuff.

i dont know about you, but I never paid a dime and am able to maintain membership with ease. in fact i got my 20 bonds already ready for 2024 lol. Just making money for membership as f2p is the difficulty. Overcoming that difficulty is rewarding. up to you if you are up for the challenge, but paying 80 for a full year for runescape mems isnt bad either.

What's a1 steak sauce like? What's its flavour profile?

I just got back into it and I'm loving it. I mean yeah I would say around the level 50 mark you start kinda peaking in F2P. I've got most of the quests done on a new account and all my F2P skills are nearing 60. I'm trying the new hardcore ironman mode too, and while I thought i would miss out on minigames, it seems no one really plays them anymore on RS3.

So I'll probably make the transition into members soon and I have no problem spending a couple bucks to those who are giving me hundreds of hours of future gameplay, I think its only fair. After all they got to eat and support families too you know?

Plus go do some of the most daring stuff you can on F2P, kill the KBD, hunt the Chaos Element, or PVP. The highest risk usually lets out the most dopamine :)
