Authenticator not working
Anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it? I have it set up properly through my account. I used my phone for the code and everything seemed to work only problem is when i log on i never have to enter a code. I use an authenticator for other things and it always sends me a code to verify so im not sure whats going on here. Thanks

You must use Google Authenticator.

Think you need to use the Jagex Authenticator, not the Google one.

No, you MUST use the Google authenticator, if you click on the link on the site, it takes you to the Google Authenticator, it's what I and everyone else will be using.

So even if it’s green with a check saying “enabled, your account is protected from hijackers and you will need your code generator each time you log in” it isn’t protected? Weird. And it should tell me it’s NOT protected if it doesn’t support the authenticator. It makes no sense.

For every month since they implemented it, I've been using the Jagex authenticator and it's worked.

The authentication system is through Jagex, the required code comes from the Google Authenticator, which when I started back up again (8 months or so) was the app that the link took you to. If they have changed it sinse then, fair enough, but the Google Authenticator has yet to fail me.

If you log in through the Steam Runescape App, it skips the authenticator on login, iirc (as well as having to enter your account name/email and password). If you have the authenticator overriding your bank pin, you do still need to use it there. If you try logging in through the regular Runescape client you can download off the website, you'll need to enter username/email, password and the authenticator.

Oh ok, Is the steam version any safer than non steam by default? Or should i override my bank pin and use the authenticator? Thanks.

The bank pin and the authenticator are two separate things. Do not remove your bank pin. The authenticator is an additional security layer on top of everything else. All Steam really does is store you password so that it's not required to log into your account since you are already logged into your Steam account -- hence why you can only link one RS account to your Steam account at a time.

I believe it still requires the authenticator each month but I cannot swear to that as I've been hopping back and forth from the RS client to Steam. The RS client still asks for the authenticator code each month.

I have it set to require it each login, not each month. The Steam login bypasses it. The regular client login requires it, as I said in the previous post.
