Gold Charms are tough to come by

One of the Daily Challenges I have been confronted with is a Summoning one where I must endow a pouch with various items (e.g., a raw chicken, wolf bones gold charm, etc.) at an obelisk in Taverley. I was able to easily obtain the various ingredients for this task except for the gold charm. There is a character who will give away one gold charm, but I need 5. I then did a little online research and learned that the only realistic way to obtain these charms is to kill Gelatinous Abominations in a cave nearby. Unfortunately, I have killed lierally hundreds of the Abominations with zero good results. So now I need to ask here for help.

Players will receive 275 gold charms upon completion of Wolf Whistle. I'm assuming you've done that though.

Gold charms are dropped by a ton of things, from the lowest of level stuff to the highest. Go to Burthorpe, from the loadstone travel north till you hit that cave. Enter it. Fight any of the trolls there for a bit. They are level 1 and drop them with zero risk to you outside a bit of time, though 5 should be really quick.

That's also a problem because you'll need to be a member to start Summoning and this is probably why you can't see charms dropping from those creatures.
You can start Wolf Whistle as a free player and get the charms from the quest when you're done (i think). So i think to get the charms, granted if what you want to do initially isn't a members activity, i would do Wolf Whistle.

You can level summoning up to level 5 as f2p.

You literally have no reason to beat that quest. Level 5 is achieved in 1 minute and bonus xp from daily is wasted if you are maxed as f2p.

That jewelry-making daily challenge is tougher than I thought. As a free player, the only jewelry I can make will require silver bars along with gemstones and my Smithing level is just 12 (Smithing level of 20 is required before you can make silver bars). I really do not understand why the devs would present me with such a demanding challenge so early in my game.

Well....I discovered the way to increase my Smithing skill to 21. So then I took my silver ore to the furnace to make bars. Ant then I get a message saying that I could not make silver bars until I completed the Family Crest quest. And guess what? The game guide stated that I must be a paying member before I can start that quest.
Wellll.....No Thanks...I am not liking this game that much.
Anyway, I want to thank you and everybody else who was generous in helping me.

Thanks for the link. However, the problem remains that if I want to work with silver, and later gold, the game prevents me from doing that. I can't make jewelry, armour or weapons at higher levels unless I become a paying member.

I'm looking into this and I don't really see how being a F2P prevents you from training Crafting even insofar as gold items are concerned. While the smithing gauntlets are a reward from the quest, it's only other reward with regard to gold is the ability to store gold and silver ore and bars in the metal bank.

Since you cannot do the quest because it is members only, I see your only limitation being in the inability to use the metal bank. If you store the ore and bars in your normal bank, this should not be a problem.

Both Smithing and Crafting are free-to-play skills. You should not have any problems or restrictions in training either or both of them. You just wouldn't be capable of utilizing the rewards from completing any of the members-only quests but that would not and should not prevent you from training the skill in other ways.

Hang in there. The game is worth it. It's really tough for free players to get a handle on things but once you find your bearings and making money, you'll be able to pay for membership through the game itself with bonds and that will open up the whole rest of the game for you.
